sounds to me like you've got a short in your system somewhere... those are never fun to trace down. Are there any other mods you've done to your truck in the past few weeks? You'd be amazed how something completely unrelated that you did screwed up something in your brake light system.

First off... are you capable and competent on tracing down electrical shorts? Do you know how to use a multimeter? Please don't use a test light, air bag safe or not... they only show you a light, and you need to be able to see if the wire you're testing is sending/receiving a full 12v+ supply. Can you trace down where the solenoid is at, and remove it? Are you dead positive that your taillight bulbs are in good working order?

If you can't do these things, take the truck to a reputable auto electrician shop. $100 spent there will be well worth your frustrations (no, I'm not saying that's what it will cost you... It could very well be more).

If you can do those things, I would start by replacing the original third brake light first... despite having worked for a while after replacing that, that could be your issue (you could have pinched a wire while putting it in). Then find your solenoid, which probably has an electrical connector attached to it, and unplug that. Then replace your fuse. Get down under the dash and with your finger, push the plunger on the switch.

Did you feel any mechanical switching from the new switch? You probably should have, but either way did your brake lights turn on? If not, is your fuse blown again? If still good, go take your taillights out and unplug the bulbs (third brake light too). replace fuse and have friend push plunger again while you stick your multimeter leads in the brake light sockets from the taillights. are you getting 12v there? If yes, check your bulbs again. If not, did the fuse blow again (LOL)? It's gonna be a lot of check this, unplug that, replace here, test there... See where spending $100 on someone who knows what they're doing seems worthwhile?

I have only done the CAI and exhaust upgrades as well as the third brake light. I no jack shit when it come to wiring so I guess I'll need to take it in. Also I tried to add a drop support strut to the tailgate about a month back and it didn't work. When I was putting the last bolt in the tail light it sheared off the head. So I first need to extract that bolt before I can check tail light bulbs. Also any clue what to use to replace the foam gasket material that was originally on the third brake light? It has to be peeled away to remove it so naturally I'd need to replace that when I reinstall the old third brake light.

Try taking the new third brake light out and redoing all the wiring that you did a couple weeks ago just to make sure all your connections are good.

I put led bulbs in my 1st gen 3rd BL and it threw my abs light for open circuit. Has to be something with that light after reading old post in here.

Just dropped my baby off at the stealership to let them hunt down the culprit. I needed to have the spiral cable recall taken care of and the tpms light looked at anyway so what the hell.

How the heck did you manage that?? that bolt goes into a metal clip, held in place by plastic... the clip would have broken the plastic long before the metal bolt would have started to shear... I know its cheap and soft metal, but still.

Sonofabitch!! Shop just called and said its definitely the super bad ass led third brake light that caused the short. Gotta go back to the OEM and contact the seller about returning the one I bought. Shit! In a lighter note, they're ordering the leafs for the leaf spring TSB and doing the spiral cable recall. Tried quoting me $692 +tax to install all new tpms and recalibrate. NOPE! Should get her back today. I was holding on to hope that it was some other BS but I knew it was gonna end up being the light. It's the only thing I've changed electrically in the past few weeks. Dammit to hell! Thanks to everyone who threw advice my way! It was great to see the brotherhood at work.

Well it did and trust me I was barely snugging it up. I'm leery around that stuff for fear of cracking a lens.

sounds like the "stealership" took pretty decent care of ya, aside from trying to get you on the TPMS stuff

But glad it's worked itself out for ya :)

Replaced the bulbs in the OEM brake light with some new brighter ones and cleaned the lens really well. Put it back on with a good thick bead of RTV sealant. It's back to ugly and plain again but at least it's working. Now I can pass inspection.
