Sleeping on the roof is softer than on the ground?

I know it's personal preference, but man that's kinda silly pricey. I shoot and scoot a lot during hunting season. I had a truck camper for a while, but for back roads stuff I just threw my gear and dog in the back of 98 Cherokee and hit the trails- just a bivy and my bag and a tarp. And I'm almost 50, lol. I guess I'm never too old for sleeping on the ground.

To each his own, but christ- $1,500+ for a tent is crazy. I just bought my last tent I'll ever own- a Spring Bar (made in the U.S.of A) canvas tent 10x14 for half that cost. I'm sure with practice I'll be able to set that one up and down in less than 15 minutes- including cots and sleeping bags.

We where off to the right if you leave the event take a right down to fn90 and head back about a half mile so really close to everything tried to find a spot that had some wind blockage but next year we wanna plan it all out take a few days wheeling and then probably hit the event for a day then hit some more trails there's a lot of them out there

In those tents there is a mattress padding and you don't get that cold floor from the ground and since its mounted to truck it does really good in bad weather I don't gotta worry about a wet floor in it if it rains to hard and if your traveling down the road going across states you pull over unzip it grab the ladder pull it and go to bed all bedding and pillows stay inside it while it's folded up I don't think you'll wanna camp in a tent on the side of a road traveling look at it as a step between a tent and a camping trailer to me 1500 isn't that much the tent I got is a 4+ person tent it's a foot longer and wider then a Cali king mattress it fits me the wife two kids and two 90+lb dogs and plenty of room left for moving around

I slept in the back of my truck under a topper on a platform for a few years and was completely content with the setup. Once day my wife came to me with the idea of buying a rtt. I was shocked. My wife loves the truck because I can basically pick up anything she wants to buy with it. but a rtt? I'm still puzzled. I bought it and she's game to go camping anytime. the first two times we went it rained. she said she liked the sound of the rain on the tent. My wife absolutely hates the rain. the 3rd time we were pulling into a state campground and a skunk sauntered across the space. she said she was glad we had the rtt. she say's it's like a tree fort. sometimes we have a view of the lake or ocean that you can't get when you are on the ground.

to the guy with the 90lb dog good on ya. My rtt is atop the cab and I climb the ladder with my 40 lb dog on my shoulders no problem, but she's fussy about getting out. how do you get your 90lb dog out of the tent?

I'm about to order a RTT to go on my Prinsu bedrac which should be finished in about two weeks. Much like the poster above it is my wife that is driving the RTT purchase. Apparently she thinks 1900 in a RTT cost less than the 1900 in suspension I want...women, go figure.

    This was our 'family' camper-

I had that truck for over 12 years, the camper for 5. Great set up. Thought we would end up camping more together. Nope. It became my hunting 'man camp', lol. Just sold it and the camper and waiting for my Taco. Going back to the tent if I'm gonna be solo most of the time. If it get's really cold I can hook up a 4 dog night wood stove in the Spring Bar tent.

Haha right haha you'll like it I love mine if your olny camping for a night or two might be overkill but when I go it's a week or so so the set up works great I'm currently designing a kitchen drawer setup for the bed in mine we want to be completely off grid on trips

A taco won't go where we hunt.

    8B83064C-170C-4767-B86D-AF87295B7F34-245_0af1f6245dd7abde5838a2bf8686a94f97de3536.jpg

From here it's on foot or horse. I would consider a four wheel camper for the back of my Taco. I actually like their flatbed version. But I'm kinda done with the whole heavy camping thing unless it's winter. Two days after this photo was taken a blizzard came in and the temps dropped to -10. I stayed in the camper one night until my propane became useless and then moved into the tent the other night. Threw a lot of wood on that fire that night..

I think your looking at more of the hunting season stuff like a base camp set up we use ours every other weekend and go out and cover other states off roading so hunredes of miles of wheeling and for the cold they make thermal covers for these that are good for -30 I believe don't hold me to it but I know it's in the negatives
