Alright everyone, apparently I'm an effing tard and can't seem to install a new cv axle seal in correctly. Because of this, I bought two new ones. Pretty sure I just f'ed the first one up. ANY suggestions as to what I may be doing wrong, or any tips or tricks to help with the install? Thanks in advanced!

First make sure that you didn't score or otherwise mess up the surface of the diff when you removed the old one. Second buy OEM. Third tap it in lightly going all around using a piece of PVC pipe and only tap on the exterior part of the seal. My original seal was set in about a 1/16" from the edge of the diff, so that's how far I drove in the new one. Good luck.

I bought OEM. Managed to mess up the second one upon installation. I cleaned out the housing with some emery cloth and still it didn't want to go in nicely. I tried to take time and go slow but it always caught and chewed up the outer part of the seal. I ended up using some RTV gasket maker to try and fix it short term. It doesn't seem to be leaking... yet.

How loud is/was everyone's noise? I put my lift on last Saturday, drove to alignment shop on Sunday and heard/ felt something odd, I flipped to 4 high and it went quiet and smooth. It's not very loud and now with new tires the noise and the vibration through pedal is hard to discern, unless I'm on a completely smooth road. Anyhow, I took it to the dealer today and they said they can't hear or feel anything and want me to bring it back if it gets louder. Did your's start out quiet and progress or were some loud from the get go?

Also, service tech said problems were returning even with the tsb bearing. The sevice advisor more or less suggested going to a bushing.

You found a honest service man. Toyota knows good and well how to fix it they just need to get off their pride filled butt and do a long term fix. "Bushing"

Mine got louder over time. It wasnt that loud at all when it first started after lifting on mine. You could feel it more then you could here it in the pedals at first. Was a in and out rythmic kinda grinding noise. Over a couple of weeks though it got louder and louder. My truck is a 2015 sr5 still under warrenty so I took it in and let them do the TSB free of charge and it fixed it. However I ordered the ECGS bushing and have it in the garage if it ever comes back. Im at about 5k miles since the TSB and so far it is not come back. I also run LT285 70 17 Mud tires. An like I said at first you could only feel it. But after just a couple of weeks it got so bad I could hear it plain as day over my mud tires. An that is saying something because these jokers are pretty loud.

Mine basically felt/sounded like a bad wheel bearing. That's what I thought it was at first and I actually swapped both front hubs before I realized what it really was.

Didn't do it all the time, though, and I could usually get it to go away by going 2H>4H>2H. Always came back eventually and it was getting more and more difficult to get it to go away that way. Never really got louder.

I think I drove about 20,000 miles like that but didn't notice it for a long time because I did the lift in the beginning of the winter, I run louder snow tires, the roads are often covered in snow/ice/sand, and I was using 4H a lot. Started to become noticeable in the spring.

Thanks for the responses! I guess I'll just order the bushing, probably not worth my time going back to dealership again if it's not a guaranteed fix. I was hoping to save some time and money but oh well

I got the CV puller "tool" from Southeast Overland. That made pulling the CV axle out pretty easy.

To pop the CV axle back in I put the C clip with the opening facing down, slid the axle in as far as I could, held the outer joint and got the axle as straight as possible, then gave it a few pops on the outer end with a 4lb hammer. Rotate and repeat until the axle goes back in. Thread the axle nut on the end of the outer axle just to protect the threads when you tap it with the hammer.

So I have installed the ECGS bushing but my vibrations did not go away. Thinking i may have driven the bushing to far wondering if any one else has had this problem. Hears some picks i took after pulling my cv back off to try and figure out what i did wrong.

^^I have the same problem. I lifted front @ 1.75 on 5100s with stock coils one week ago. Today I began hearing an intermittent low growl in the front end that comes and goes. I installed the ECGS bushing a couple months ago in anticipation of the lift, and I looked at my CV axle at the time and it did not look marred up. Any ideas what this growl is?

Install bushing flush with carrier (Be careful not to drive the bushing past flush as the design of the bushing is longer then the stock needle bearing to provide more support, however if driven to much past flush it will contact the spider gear)

May want to contact Chase about that. Hard to tell how much past flush it is. It does
look like it is a little past though
