wire gauge doesn't really matter (to an extent). get it close and it should be fine. amperage is what determines wire gauge, and you're sending 12v to a tiny little coil that's going to pull hardly anything.... just get it close and don't fret about it

For the spade connectors - pull the relay out, take it to autozone or wherever, pick the connector that fits. the plastic tab that holds the connector in, is just that, a plastic tab. it should hold any spade connector of the same size

Edit: google search "double spade connector." - you might be able to make this work also, but it would take some figuring out

Installed Overhead Compass and Temperature Display along with outside temperature sensor and wiring; LED lights reverse backup; LED license plate lights; Added GTA Bluetooth Audio kit to stock radio for iphone audio; Spare tire steel braided air hose extension connection to rear bumper; Installed new headlights along with new bulbs PIAA H4 XTreme and for fog lights PIAA H10 XTreme bulbs. Installed new hood with "hood-scoop". Installed Predator Side Steps. Replaced front chrome grill with customized color matched (Desert Sand Mica) grill with added TOYOTA lettering (also in matched color), installed and secured tailgate anti-theft devices. Also installed a new external TPMS monitor for all 4 tires.
Has anyone tried this on a 2008 Tacoma?

If so would like to hear about it, what did you experience, any type of changes, modifications, etc.?

Or is the modification exactly as explained in the OP,...just a straight forward switch of both wires?

    Thanks!

Is the fog relay reinstalled or left out after the wires are switched? ... or did I miss that?

    Thanks!

I can run wires and turn a wrench, but I'm a techno-idiot when it comes to electronics. I thought that maybe the relay was bypassed by switching the wires, but now realize that the relay completes the circuit.

I gave up. I couldn't get the connectors out. I mangled both of them luckily my fogs still work with the relay reinstalled. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow...

Stupid question, does taping the AC mean you will be hard on the electrical system if you run the AC and fog lights at the same time?

I wouldn't chance tapping into the AC. I did mine this way, very simple and fast.

No wont tax anything at all. These are control wires which draw very low amounts of current to turn a relay on or off. The wires carrying the actual current to drive the fogs or AC inverter are completely untouched in all the various versions of this mod - they connect to the other pins of the relays.

And no worries, no stupid questions when it comes to electricity!

I chose to go the route of pushing the red wire out the bottom and putting a ground wire in its place. I have run the ground wire under and into the larger fuse box (all tidy and stealth like) in search of a ground wire to plug into. Now I am not sure where to find a ground wire in there. Can anyone help?

Ground wire? It has been quite a while since I did this but I believe the terminal where the Red/Black wire is needs to have +12v not -12v. The fog light switch on the dash actually switches the negative side of the circuit so you need to have either a switched or constant source of +12v going to the relay.

I believe what you say is correct; however, there are two things I can't seem to do right now. One is find the thread where someone showed doing it this way and the other is to effectively describe myself how a guy at the auto electric shop I went to discovered by himself how to do the same thing by using a jumper across two of the switch terminals and eliminate the red wire to the relay while attaching that relay terminal to ground. To save me money he sent me home with the homework of finding a ground source within the fuse box to neatly tie into. Not being an electrical trouble shooter by any stretch of the imagination I don't know how to find a ground source within that fuse box. I thought I was simply looking for a white/black wire to connect to at its plug end, but there doesn't appear to be that colour of wire in there. Can anyone help me find a ground source in there?

There probably is not a good grounding point in either the relay box or the fuse box for one very good reason. The truck's electrical system is a 12 volt negative ground system. The last thing you want inside of a fuse/relay box with everything at a +12 volt potential, is a place where all of this could short circuit.

Now with that being said, there is a convenient ground point with a screw on the fender beside the fuse box. If you need to ground something you can run a wire out the bottom of the relay box (where all the other wires exit) and connect it to this point.

Please keep in mind that this isn't the way this mod works. The fog light switch actually supplies the 12v negative(ground) and the positive comes from the headlight low beam circuit. ( this is why the fog lights do not normally work with the high beams)
