Only reason I pointed out I work for Nissan is I can get a killer deal on a Frontier but it would have been my 3rd one and they've been unchanged since 2005 with a few minor upgrades. Couldn't see myself doing it and with folks with Gen 1 and Gen 1 tacos running them forever I jumped on it. Hell we manufacture and assemble the 4.0L here in good old TN and it's put together down the road in Canton MS. About an American truck as you can get.

But before the haters and fan boys jump on me, my next truck will be neither a taco or frontier. As much as I hate to buy from the big 3 I'll do more diligence and probably pick something up along those lines. Trust me, Nissan won't be groundbreaking with the next generation Frontier and I think Toyota will be doing a lot of damage control over the years with this Gen Tacoma.

Totally understand where you're coming from, buying a frontier now is almost the same as buying one 10 years ago, so if you already owned one you'd feel wierd buying another one that looks exactly the same. For me I've never had one so it'll feel new to me. My reason for wanting to buy one now is that the next gen may look like the Navara which i really do not care for as far as styling goes. Id love to buy from the big 3 but unless they start offering sticks on half ton trucks its jus not going to happen.

How did a Frontier thread get started in a Tacoma forum?

....I did drive a Frontier V6 with a manual trans before the Tacoma. First thing I noticed was the interior was a joke. The seats felt like they would have wire poking out in a year. I was impressed with the engine and trans however. Limited test drive though. Just and initial impression.

Now if Toyota would put a 4.0 liter V6 in a Tacoma, that would be a nice truck. Wait...they did that already? Oh well, never mind.

    Workin' on it....
When I was shopping around I test drove a 2015 Nissan Pro4x and a 2015 Tacoma. The Nissan definitely had more get up and go than the 4.0 Taco but I hated the interior and the exterior was fugly. Ended up with my 2013 Taco and couldn't be happier - puts a smile on my face everytime I look at it.

I feel the same, dated interior but i dont hate it, exterior is fugly upfront, i dont care much for the grill, ill probably plastidip it if i buy one. The rest of the truck looks fine to me though. If i was in the market for a used truck I'd buy a 2nd gen taco but i want something brand new, especially since im buying a stick and i dont trust that who ever drove it last didnt abuse the clutch and tranny.

Lol i started it because i was going to buy a tacoma but was curious about the frontier. You're 100% correct, the interior on the nissan is dated(the pro4x is a little better than the other models) but just like you i was impressed with the engine and trans, i think its because nissan hasnt nurfed it to try and get better milage like toyota has done with the taco which really didnt do much if you look at most peoples average its not much better than the previous gen or the frontier. If toyota left the 4.0 in the taco id be all over it in stick since i havent seen any real complaints about the new 6 speed trany besides people not being able to find where the gears are.

Not really, people dont generally take to message boards, websites and dealers to complain about things on something they purchased just because they dont like the vehicle. I mean they were willing to spend 30k+ for it so they must have liked it. Then problems start to arise so they start to complain. I totally understand that you need to make yourself feel happy about your purchase and its great that you have no complaints but as someone who is just an on looker watching both forums and test driving both trucks and doing extensive research its clear which truck is less troublesome. But its still unclear how one is less of a truck.

Im pretty sure he didnt have to disclose that he works for Nissan, if he was a secret agent he blew his cover rather quickly. Not to mention he even said hes not going to buy a nissan so not sure why you're YELLING.

Don't read too deep into hero.

I disclosed it saying I could have bought another frontier and went on with my day but it's long in the tooth with nothing that entices me day. I mainly disclosed I was a Nissan employee and decided to spend my cash of the competition based on the history's reputation and what initially appealed to me. Trust me I'm the furthest thing from an undercover narc.

Im not really taking anything seriously im just stating facts that the 3rd gen taco has issues that are non issues on the frontier. Id much prefer to own a taco, i wish i bought one in 2014 when i bought my last vehicle but i didnt need a truck then but not now when there so many people with issues. But i guess no one is actually having issues and their just complaining because they are unhappy with their truck so toyota decided to replace their trannys and issue them 100k warranties simply because nothing was wrong and they were just not happy as you are.

The Frontier has gobs of torque. Not the Tacoma.

I considered a Frontier, but I just couldn't get over how damn ugly it is! The interior looks like the '90's...hell the way it looks on the inside an in-dash CD player looks out of place! It's more a cassette environment! It also felt cheaply built on the inside. I didn't drive it, but I've had a couple Maximas before and their V-6 motors are the bomb!!! So I wouldn't have expected anything less from the Frontier's powertrain. But, man it perplexes me why Nissan won't truly update that truck! The Tacoma needs some real competition!

In closing, did I mention how ugly and cheaply built the Frontier is?

It's a function over form preference. The Frontier doesn't look appealing but it works as a truck and it's built well.

It looks like Toyota spent a bulk of the 3rd gen's research and developement funds on the interior which left the transmission, drivetrain, and engine in question.

Pick your truck. It's either a truck of comfort (Tacoma) or a workhorse (Frontier).

The Tacoma has been and will continue to be a workhorse truck...it's in its DNA! I never said the Frontier wasn't functional. It's just UGLY and OUTDATED!

No matter what you counter, I'll still say...UGLY...OUTDATED!!!!

There was a reason why Toyota created the Tacoma for the North American market and stopped selling the Hilux/Pick-up here.

American consumers wanted comfort. Toyota's workhorse is the Hilux. The Tacoma is a recreational and comfort truck.

Lots of Frontiers on craigslist with high miles. What are the main known issues with the frontiers, if any? Given the much lower resale value, if they are bulletproof, would make great used truck buys

The main issues from 2005-2010 were the possibility cross contamination of coolant in the tranny and a timing chain guide issue. I would choose a model past 2010.

Imo, go look at a few years old frontier to see how the interior/exterior holds up. That tells you of the quality of material and build quality.

The issues that i stated are non issues on the 16 frontier so that is a fact. The only common issues you see with thr frontier was the cross contamination and timing chain issues which one doesn't apply to me since I'm getting a stick and the other has been addressed.

Could you please show me the frontier forum with 2016 issues? I cant find one.

Sir when you have a warranty through toyota, toyota pays for any work that needs to be done so whether the dealer issued it or toyota themselves either way toyota is paying the bill for any work done.

Thats true, and their not happy about it.
I am happy for the people that dont gave issues and are happy but the amount of people who have issues and are not happy is a fair amount, and they are justified, have you seen the video of the guy with the kazoo sound, i mean wtf thats a brand new truck making more noise in the cab than a delivery truck with 100k miles on it. Also go over to the frontier forum and you dont see many unhappy people and definitely not many trolls either.
I started the thread because I wanted to see if anyone that bought a tacoma got rid of their frontier for it because they had issues with the frontier. Some did, most said theirs was reliable though. The resale is a rather mute point if you look back in this thread where i compared the prices of used frontiers to tacoma, yes the tacos are more but they cost more to begin with and even if they come out slightly higher i plan to keep the truck for 100k so in 10 years i can deal with what ever the resale is and no one really knows the resale on the 3rd gen is going to be either. You're not the first person in this thread to post a pic of both trucks. No question the taco looks better but thats about all you can say for definite right now. No one can make reliability claims since its too new and so far has already had a fair amount of problems. More than most vehicles on a first year redesign. I bought a 14 Forester that was a 1st year redesign and the only issue was some were burning oil and there was a class action suit about it but for most it wasnt bad, mine burns a quart between oil changes, it is what it is but its no wheres near as bad as the problems people are having with the 3rd gen.

i had a 2005 Fronti and really liked the truck. it worked great for me, no issues. my perspective, it felt like a stronger truck, more powerful. I also feel like it was bigger inside. I liked the bed as well, the factory spray in bed liner and tailgate was much better. I have 2015 taco now and it feels like a tighter ride, but smaller. I would ride it out and see what the new frontier is going to offer...whenever that is!

Why is "this guy" needing to validate his purchase on the Tacoma World Forum? I myself gives a damn what the Frontier forum members think of my purchase!!! What's the point?????

Whos trying to validate anything? I was trying to see have any taco owners had experience with frontiers and what their reasons for switching were. I haven't made a purchase of anything yet.

Pretty sure an article from 2013 wont show complaints from a 2016 vehicle

Sir that is from 6 years ago and i also stated im getting a stick so auto problems dont bother me.
You find me a dealer that goes by kbb cuz i havent, also just do an auto trader search like i did here
I wasnt comparing anything i was just saying my subaru was a first year redesign and i was a forum member on the forester forums and the only issue was burning oil. I think you're the one trying to justify your purchase here, i was just seeking out info before i make a purchase, like I said i want a tacoma i am just turned off from all the complaints here.

Lol my responses are weak? Says the guy who immediately said the frontier is less of a truck but then never answered how its less of a truck. If anyone is trolling here its you. Im looking for information and all your doing is shitting on the frontier and praising the tacoma with no valid point and posting links from 10 years ago to show that the frontier has issues and an article from 3 years ago about vehicle complaints when theres 100s of complaints right here in the forum. I showed you actual autotrader listings to show that trds and pro4x have similar resale value when you factor in the higher cost of the tacoma.
