Roger that...did you have to run wheel spacers to clear the tire from the UCA? Trying to decide on shit.

I want to run a 285 tire but i was thinking maybe since the spindles push the wheel out more it could take away the need for wheel spacers up front.

 

Well, its not lol. Like I said, I had a prerunner for a while, so I know the 2WD pain lol. But I moved away from the beaches and deserts and all the hills around here needed 4x4 so I bit the bullet. You can still have your safe place lol. I also look at it like this, I got all my mistakes out on the 2WD and then upgraded to a 4WD. I'll be honest, I regret not buying a 4WD from the start. The first time I hit a black diamond trail with guys up here, butt clenching like crazy from memories of getting stuck in the 2WD and being embarrassed in front of the NorCal TW guys, and then 4LO just crawled the fuck up with no problems lol

 

I think I want 255s when my 265s are worn out. I don't think I can clear 285s without spacers or new wheels and I'm never ditching the FJ trail team wheels. I been in love with those wheels since I first saw em on a ugly fj

 

No, It would have cleared just fine but I wanted the glass and the stance, so i ran spacers. 4.5 BS wheels clear everything just fine. Pretty sure you need wheels with 4.75 BS with spindles to clear everything, so stock wheels or 5.0-5.5 BS wont clear

 

You could probably get away with 3/4" spacers up front to clear UCAs with 285s

 

The only time I regret not getting a 4x4 is on the days I got in the sand. Which is like 2x a year. Lol. No big deal.

 

I have T force wheels (I think) that came with my Texas Edition. Not sure on the specs of them though. They do poke out a little more than the stock TRD wheels.

So you are saying with a 285 tire and spindles there wouldn't be and rubbing on the UCAS? Sorry man, I've got a shit ton more questions and I get more confused with every answer lol.

Sure I regret buying another prerunner after my first was totaled, but finding a 4wd first gen that meets my standards isn't always easy. Either way, I love my prerunner because despite no 4wd, it is a sexy first gen with a locker and modded exactly how I want it... well if I had new front coils for a level stance, that would be perfect. But close enough. My next taco will be 4wd cuz yeah, it's annoying getting stuck. But for the most part, my prerunner has gone beyond expectations, especially in the hill country

 

I'm weary of spacers, never had em. but they sketch me out

Same here, dont want to but new wheels though. I would, but the ones i want are pricey...and i like mine TBH

 

Pop a wheel off and measure from where the lug surface is to the edge of the rim. 4.75" or less and you're good

 

1st gen, convert that shit to 4x4. Guys do it for about a grand on 1st gens

 

Plenty of people run them all the time. The smaller the spacer, the safer. All the horror stories are 99% user fault. Didn't tighten the lugs enough, didn't use loctite, smashed to hard on shit. And even the last one is kinda iffy. Ask Chris who posted all the LT shit earlier, he mashed on spacers like he had what he does now and never snapped a spacer

 

I don't have the knowledge and skills to do that. Plus it's my dd

 

I've also heard some shops won't work on your truck if you have spacers. Like if you want them to do anything that involves removing the tires

 

Mud wasnt bad as long as it wasnt a steep hill or super deep. Just keep skinny pedal going and dont lose momentum. Even 2wd its all about picking your lines.

If anything I feel like 2WD helped me get better at offroadimg because it makes you pick better lines that you can get up whereas 4x4 you're kinda just worried about if the shit is gonna make you flip lol
