Just picked up 2016 Tacoma DCSB M/T sport package on Saturday I am now breaking in the engine, in the manual it indicates "you should drive in four wheel drive for at least 10 miles each month" I am not sure if we should be doing it now or after engine break in? I would appreciate some help in this matter, thanks in advance.

You can wait until your break in period is over.

It's just a rule of thumb to keep everything lubed up. You don't HAVE to do it. Some go months without using it, and it'll still engage/work/disengage normally.

I see no reason why it couldn't be driven in 4wd during the break-in, assuming you follow all the other wickets of break-in and don't have it in 4wd on dry pavement during low speed turns.

But yeah, 1k is not very long so no sweat if you don't get it in 4wd until after that.

According to some users, you don't even need 4wd and it's a complete waste of money :rolleyes:o_O @pittim

If you have loose dirt it may help you break in the truck. Just take it easy and not do a Baja right off.

I've been meaning to ask a question but the other 4x2 versus 4x4 thread got locked this morning.

Is there any significant difference in ride between a 4x2 and 4x4 Tacoma?

For instance, would you notice any difference in a 2 wheel versus 4 wheel version of the 2017 TRD Offroad double cab? Assume everything on the truck is identical except for the drive. Same tires, wheels, packages, etc.

Do the extra drive line components add any additional noise or anything else you would notice?

When I finally make the plunge into the next generation Tacoma, I am strongly considering getting the 4x4 so my pee pee will get bigger. Seriously though, I am planning on exploring more of North America than I ever have before and I would like a 4x4 version of the Tacoma.

    Thanks!

My last truck was a 2wd. My tacoma is a 4wd. I do not notice any major difference (aside from it being a different vehicle obviously) when driving. Definitely nothing that would make me wish I got a 2wd. The two piece driveshaft and angles can be causing the low speed rumble vibration and sometimes I hear a clunk in the driveline, but normal driving I notice nothing different. Plus having 4wd (which is where this truck is really meant to be IMO) well outweighs those cons.

If u drive 'em back to back maybe you'd notice a slight difference in weight of the truck. Day to day, I can't imagine noticing a difference.
