wondering the same thing. anyone know the process to adding roof tracks to a flat top camper shell? what hardware should I use?

 

It is my understanding that all the roof tracks are the same... Rhino, Yakima, Thule, etc.

I bought some 60" Yakima tracks (with hardware) for $80 shipped. I then just measured and cut it down to the length of my camper top.

Get everything measured and squared up, put some masking tape down (helps prevent chips), measure your mounting holes, measure again, and then drill your holes. Not a hard process, just make sure you measure everything correctly, and then add silicone sealant to all holes before putting the bolts through.

 

Did you get your track off Amazon/ebay?

 

I used Rhino, and they came with rivets. Drill, silicone, rivet, repeat. and like he said^^^ measure many times!

I bought my first set from ORS Racks and the last set came from campsaver. I looked and I actually paid $90 shipped. I think they retailed for around $100 and I googled up a 10% coupon.

I have a 100r on order, and I obtained the thule rack parts seperately. The tracks are 22$ apiece, end caps 1$. The 125$ track kit comes with hex wrench, drill bits and rtv silicon, etc, all of which I already own. Just need to buy the stainless m5 hardware from a local big box store. I saved 60 $ or so. I've installed the tracks before, it's easy. The standalone parts are available from ORS racks. They also have the best price on the 480 footpacks with 3101 track adapters, as the half packs come with your choice of crossbar. All told, 303$ shipped. It's not hard to do the install yourself, measure twice, tape the tracks down and follow the instructions on the thule site.

 

There's a few more in my build but this should give you the idea. They look the same as the other tracks I've seen. The install is very straight forward. Measure twice. Mark the holes. Measure again. Drill the holes. Put a dab of silicone on the holes and bolt it up. The tracks do come with end caps, I just chose not to use them.

ORS has the thule TB60 tracks for 22$ apiece, 1$ for the end caps, a total of 48$. I just bought stainless hardware to install and it came to 27$, and I bought more than the 12 screws, a total of 16 to fasten the shell better to the roof of my camper.
So 75$, instead of 127$, which is what thule and most retailers including Amazon charge for the "kit" which comes with a hex wrench and drill bits, stuff everyone has already.. a savings of 50$

 

ORS has the best deal I could find on the thule footpacks with the adapter for the tracks, the half packs come with your choice of crossbar lengths, a big savings..

Nice! How much weight do those things hold?

 

The tracks? They won't be the limiting factor. Your roof and or the rack itself will determine load capacity. I have no idea how much mine will hold. It hold 150 lbs of kayaks just fine.

 

Anyone running a commercial cap (DCU, DCC, Tradesman etc) on a DCSB that could post some pictures and comments? Especially one that's slightly taller than cab high.
