Having my frame replaced in the next few weeks here. Wondering if anyone can find a list of parts worth replacing outside what the dealer covers? Im at 166k fyi and things are getting pretty worn down there.

I'm a few weeks away also. I have recent shocks/struts so they won't be changed this time. I did order a set of steering rack bushings as well as a center bearing and three U-Joints for the rear shaft to combat a driveline vibration I have at 50-55 mph.
Received the rear spring recall notification in the mail yesterday, but the dealer said they expected this and that the real leaf springs would be in the frame parts package.
    Just past 150K last week.

Care to link me to all of said parts and total cost? Id like to have the major components the dealer wont cover in hand by the time my frame comes in. Also did you have a list of parts to reference that they wont cover that usually does get replaced with these?

    I have:
    1. steering rack bushing kit from Wheelers off-road (ES 8.10106G Steering Rack Bushing Kit, 05+ Tacoma) for $58
    2. Spicer Center Bearing Assy from Amazon (5002334) don't remember the cost...
    3. Spicer 5-1330 U-Joints from Amazon (B00D018BDS) for about $27 each

I expect that I'll get some pushback on the U-Joints from the dealer, they may want some shop time for that install, but they have to take off the rack and the center bearing. My ace is the screw-up of the service advisor that told me it was approved for replacement in July 2015 and never submitted the problem. I visited their shop after the 6 month wait to find he had lied and had recently quit.

Parts stories have varied, from nothing needed to bolts broken and other odds and ends (you'll have to review this thread for details). But there are also a few stories about a dealer taking good care of people.

Since this recall is winding down I'd like to share a couple comments if I may.

First, I've followed this thread since Post #1. I'm always amazed in the pictures how good the bodies/paint look on the Tacomas for their ages.

I'm also surprised that Toyota stood behind all these frames for the age of the vehicles. As a previous "always" GM user I just know GM would have told everyone to take their rusty frames down the hall...

And finally, I realize that not all who had their frame replaced had a "great" experience with the process/outcome. But, I'm also impressed on how many did have a good outcome with the swap for the quantity involved.

I swapped to Toyota due to their better quality and support. And I for one am still glad for the swap.

Same here they had no idea when the frame would come. But I made sure I got another truck for a loaner. My frame just came in Thursday and I should be picking it up Monday. I waited over 4 months. They originally told me it could be as much as 6 months

That looks like the frame replacement bay at Thompson? I'm at four months now and haven't heard anything. I do see that have 3 new frames waiting. What else are you having done? Also, who is your service manager?

Good eye it is Thompson. I had them put on 5100s Toytec AAL 2016 coils and Gibson exhaust. And they fixed a leak in the rear dif. I think the service managers name is Steve but I've been talking to a guy named Ben. I picked it up Monday and dropped it back off today. Something was leaking.

Well... Like an idiot I totally forgot about this recall. For some reason I thought I had more time to have it inspected and remedied.

Apparently that is not the case however. I have a hole about the size of a softball in my frame and the Toyota mechanic told me they definitely would have had to replace my frame if I had brought it in for inspection during the recall.

Toyota has already told me that I'm pretty much SOL, since I missed the deadline.

So what are my options does anyone know?

Id think youd have to wait until the "next" recall campaign if that ever comes. I highly doubt it but maybe some 1st gen owners can enligthen you as to if there ever was a 2nd campaign.

I had a 2000 Tacoma 4x4 that I purchased new when I graduated college. Drove that truck for 10 years and 150,000 miles, never had any problems with it, and then I noticed the frame was rusting and heard about the recall so I brought it in. The frame failed, Toyota gave me something like $12,000 for the truck which was more than fair, and I purchased a brand new 2010 Tacoma TRD a week later. I still have the 2010 as my daily driver and have never had any trouble with it in the 6 years and 85,000 miles that I have had it so far. There is no better vehicle on the road than Tacoma and Toyota really stands behind them.

My frame was replaced around Easter. Trucks at 94500 miles. Have driven it less than 500 miles since new frame. Now my AC light is blinking and I had some stink and squealing. Would they have messed with the AC system during frame swap? I have looked at AC light blinking thread and am prepare to diagnose but if it is their screw up I will get it back to dealer.

I'm currently at 4 months + on waiting for the frame. I do visit my Taco every other Sunday to drive it around the lot. Last Sunday the steering was horrible. I would turn the wheel as normal, then have to turn it more to steer. Did not feel good at all. Hoping their not f'in with it. The Tacoma next to mine had 2 flats, treads looked good on them.

Nymph, the steering is probably because of the steering knuckle at bottom of the steering shaft is corroding from just sitting. I have to hit mine from underneath every so often with white lithium grease spray. It's another Toyota problem on our 2005s in that they should have a rubber booty over the joint. I replaced a PS pump before I figured it out.

Well, stopped by the dealer today to start my truck and could not find it! Peeked in the garage and there she sat. Up on the lift, bed off, transmission on the ground. I guess I'll get the call tomorrow that they're working on it. My plan is to pay them a visit in morning anyway.

After my inspection in December, parts were in at the end of April. I am deployed right now, the wife and kids stayed with the in-laws till my return. Over the weekend she got moved into the new house back in NC, and first thing this morning my 05 was dropped off at the dealer. Swap is underway. She is in a brand new 4 door Chevy Silverado.

She definitely does not care about the frame swap as much as me, I was really hoping to get some progress pics, but i doubt those will be coming. Updates posted as I get them.
