    man chris you made the whole thing sound so easy and for $1k I wounder if I can get mine done it's a 1gen. auto 3.4L trd off road pack with rear locks and with tax seaon aroud the corner it could work.... I'll keep everyone posted

    John, go over to TTORA.com and do a search there. There have been quite a few folks who have done it there. Hope you have your flame suit ready.... :D

    Did you READ this thread?? Cost effectiveness is pretty clearly demonstrated- You can pay a premium to get what the dealership sells you or you can pay just over a grand to get a system built the way you want it. Also provides options for a SAS as part of the build.

    I bought a 4x4...but I don't think it's unreasonable to build what you want....with what you've got.

    and how "cost effective" is it to trade in a perfectly good truck on another more expensive perfectly good truck...You'll take a bath on the trade in and end up making more payments anyways...Better investment to work with what you have...if you have the know how.

    I'm about sick and tired of this attitude that someone should trade in their truck bc they want 4wd

    on the 1st Gens it's a relativel easy swap and it's pretty cheap too.

    Not everyone can afford to just up and trade vehicles...


    Im also sick and tired of johnv's attitude about modifying vehicles...that's what we do here...

    It took them a YEAR?? You and your company got FUCKED. And there is a far cry of difference between PAYING a company to do something and doing it yourself. I'm sure you got plenty of new parts and "custom ordered" stuff for those conversions. You can get the parts and if you have the skills to do the work...It can be done (as folks HAVE done it) and all the work I've ever done with my cars/trucks didn't need warranty coverage...and least not within a year...

    Maybe you won't get the whole SAS and etc etc...but you can add manual drive...It's not a question or a guess..It's happened.

    kinda off topic but I have a house down in Mexico right on the beach and I learned my lesson in Az Lake Havasu geting stuck bad in the sand do I need 4x4 To be able to ride on the sand in mexico or just better tires like bfg's all terrains i have the stock (sports pkg) Dunlops now..

    Air down and remember to keep up some momentum. Stay on top of the sand and you'll be fine

    If you get stuck you are stuck....4x4 helps...but it doesn't make you impervious to needing an assist now and again.

    Doesn't seem like that tough of a conversion. I would imagine that a wrecked vehicle could donate the parts and pretty much bolt it together. Sounds like fun actually.

    Because I don't have the skills to weld up a new front end and if you'll notice what I said..."work with what you got" I have decent credit and a good job- so I made the choice paid for 4x4 up front. Some folks either aren't sure or need to save a few bucks.

    As far as "you not saying the that crap" you did too. Swampthings thread is a great example. As it this one. You have a piss poor attitude and it's funny...when lots of folks start agreeing about something...It's more than an opinion.

    My Fire Company had one built in the 90's, sure didn't take a year. It was also necessary as at the time Ford didn't offer a crew cab dually 4x4. Great truck, according to the guys at Quigley, it is an easy conversion using factory parts.

    And it HAS been done for $1k. Hell, Yesterday, A buddy of mine picked up a 4x4 rolling chassis for an 88 for $600.00. Engine, tranny/trans, axels, everything.
