Did you build it on Toyotas website? It shows the ac or v6 4x4 manual is a valid build.

I just tried to build one and you are right, it is possible. However, the color was out of stock. I will talk to my dealer again tomorrow. Funny thing is, every time I go into a Toyota dealer, I leave with less knowledge than I went in with! Crazy when you have to educate the dealer.

True statement. Not available. Closest you can get in the states is trd sport AC with manual trans.

I'm fairly positive that if you want a 4x4 V6 manual transmission you're limited to a TRD Sport access cab or TRD Off Road double cab.

Asking a Toyota dealership in Southern California for a 4x4 w/manual transmission is like asking them for a winning lottery ticket, and they're lazy SOB's about it because 99% of buyers out here only want 4x2 and/or auto transmissions so they cater almost exclusively to them. When I was looking for a used truck earlier this year, every time I'd tell a salesman I wanted a manual they'd try and talk me out of it like I didn't know what was best for me lol. Throw 4x4 into the mix and you can tell they just want to roll their eyes and shoo you along so they can sell a truck to the next guy that walks in that wants whatever is on the lot. Just have to shop around and find a dealership that's willing to work with you, the more specific you are the more you may have to be willing to travel a bit.

OP, in case you want to buy and import from Canada: I have brought 2 new vehicles from Canada to Texas on 2 different occasions (Not my Taco though). I had to declare at the border each vehicle. Then I had to show all papers/docs etc at DMV here in Texas in order to get a title. Canada does not use the title system to show ownership so lots of paperwork at the DMV to get a new title. I bought both trucks in Saskatchewan and I had to pay the provincial tax on the new vehicle. I also had to pay for a driving permit. Supposedly there was a way to get back the Canadian tax, but I never did it. I had saved close to $15K - $20K by buying it in Canada, and on the exchange rate as at both different times the US dollar was very high compared to the Canadian dollar.

Both trucks have bigger radiators, block heaters and other winter accessories which also help in the summertime; except maybe the block heater .... lol.

The other main thing is that the speedos and temp units were in kilometers and Celcius. This may be better with the Taco as it now also has a digital display.

I also had to show proof that EPA emissions could be met. It was easy for me as Canada has way stricter requirements than Texas.

Sorry, I don't remember anything else, but I will update if I do. Oh wait .... make sure you stop at the BORDER and DECLARE the new vehicle. My 3rd vehicle I had was used not NEW, and I did not declare it at the border. So when I tried to register it here in Texas, I could NOT, as you have to register it at PORT OF AUTHORITY ONLY. So they wanted me to go back to "North Portal" entry in Canada/USA border to register it. I had to buy 30 day driving permits until I drove it back to Canada; when I went back to visit people, and then got the right paperwork. I was told I could go to Mexican/USA border, but easier for me to make a trip and see people I knew in Canada.

One last thing, make sure you get insurance for the vehicle before you drive it back. The permit gives you only a little insurance.

OP, sorry it sounds confusing, but the only big deal was registering the vehicle with a New Title and proving EPA at the DMV and paying the State taxes. Hope this helps.

I looked at Autotrader.Com a while ago to see what a 2016 compares to my 2012 AC six speed V6. You can pick and choose a lot of variables in your search and I did find AC six speeds here in the states. I think I even found one close to Southern CA, where I live.

These do seem rather hard to find. I love my manual transmission and offroad it every chance I can. In my opinion, all these hill decent and other systems are just something else that can break down the road. I hate computer controlled cars and try to keep them as basic as possible.

Good luck with your search. I am shocked the dealer did not offer to order one for you.

The good news for the op is that the dealer he went to is a high volume dealer and is an autonation dealer. That's also the downside as well. They should have trucks in allocation that can be modified to be close to what he wants but who knows if they will go through that trouble or if they will deal on price. That dealer was telling me not to expect any discount off of msrp and was trying to sell me a used truck for 2k more than what I paid for my new truck out of state. Just saying don't waste your time if they jack you around.

Thanks for all the great replies! I have an email out to a Canadian dealer in BC for info about importing. We'll see what they say. Thanks SamChiefton for the detailed Canadian info.

I'm still talking to my local dealer's internet and fleet sales manager.

Funny that I get exactly what you want in the 4x4 Sport version but not in the Off Road version. Can't be that difficult to offer both!

I imagine the only difference between the two are lockers and suspension? I may be wrong? (Of course the blank hood scoop.)

If only it was that easy!!! The Sport version is out there. I'm really looking for the Off Road version.

Sorry. You could always look at it like we did. We got a BASE Tacoma (used) and just built it the way we wanted to! Save tons-o-money (I think!). But I am kind of with you, if you are going to throw down a chunk of change, might as well get exactly what you are looking for.

That is an option. I may be wrong, but I don't see much difference internally between the Sport and Off Road versions other than the lockers and long bed. (Flare color and blank hood scoop as well.)

For those in the know, are there more differences?

The suspension is different as well as the sport has a color matched rear bumper. Not big deal if you're planning on lifting it anyways. I bought the sport because I liked the look better than the offroad. If I need to add a locker down the road it can be added for around a grand but so far the 4x4 is capable enough for me.
