With these LEDs they are bright and they reach out!
Lows:

Lows + fogs: (didn't get a pic but did go through some descent fog and the combo worked great)

Highs:

Own the night and get these lights!

Turns out the GoPro isn't good for capturing the lighting. The curved lens and maybe the focus point didn't work. Luckily I took a bit of video on the iPhone.

Like I said in my post above the GoPro footage didn't come out good but here is a short iPhone clip. Watch the beam in the brush and you'll see that it is nice and even and solid with no shake/jiggle. I'll go out tomorrow night with an actual camera and get some better video on hopefully a bumpier road. Sadly the county roads are better than the city roads and my buddy who works for the NPS won't "accidentally" forget to lock a gate to a fireroad for

Inside the green circle is the actual unit. As you can see it is a tight fit for the low beam but take a deep breath and don't despair it will fit it just takes a bit of finesse.

 

Out playing around a few weeks ago and just now getting around to posting.

 

The Allen is used to adjust (rotate) the unit so the LED's sit left & right inside the reflector.

Here are the pics from the viewpoint of a car in front of your truck. Mind you I have a Toyteclift Boss lift and 275's so my lights are a tad higher than a stock truck. I didn't adjust the angle after the lift & tires.

Photos taken with just low beams since that's majority of our street driving.

Here are sides and rear mirror views as it would be at a stop light or in traffic. It is bright in the side mirrors but not bad in the rear especially if you toggle it.





Here are same shots taken from about two car lengths back (looks closer in pic)

Not as bright in the mirrors and again the rear could be toggled to kill the glare.



My opinion is that yes they are bright but not obnoxious. No more so than I've seen come factory on other makes and models. Personally, if I can see better - the kid or deer darting into the road from the side or the ladder in the street that fell off someone's work truck - then I'll be "that guy" and make people toggle their rear mirror.

I'm still in awe of the fogs peripheral light spread. Check out these two comparison photos. One with lows and one with addition of fogs.

 

What tire rack did you get for the Yakima rails? I just installed my TruckCoversUSA tonneau (loving it) and think I will go this route. I notice on some pics you don't have the tire/tire rack mounted. Is the assembly easy to take off? And, thirdly, is that your spare from underneath the truck, or do you now have two spares?

I lied, one more question: I might try to replicate your hijack lift mount. What mounting hardware did you use (can you get a closeup)?

 

It's all Yakima stuff. The tire is simple to take off, the basket would take a little more time because you have to undo all four attachment points but it is designed to be easy to take on and off (I haven't taken the basket off since I installed it) A couple days ago I had to haul a large stump grinder so had to take the whole rack off, which took abt 15 min. First took off the tire, then the Hi-lift (unlock then unscrew the two bolts that hold it to the Yakima mount), then took off the bike mounts which are very easy and if I had a helping hand I wouldn't need to do, then unlock the four rack towers and ba-da-Bing it lifts right off. Reverse order to install. Now if you had a buddy and a safe place to set it you could just unlock the four towers and lift it right off with a guy on each side.

The spare is the same as my other four so I can do a five tire rotation. No spare underneath. Eventually want new front & rear bumpers.

One thing I did was made a couple "lifts" so that I could see behind me under the spare. I took some gutter down spout tubing and then cut down a couple pieces of wood on the table saw to slide perfectly in them for rigidity, anchored in with screws. Painted it all black then attached those to the rack with wire anchoring clips. Works good!

Really nice clean build man. Some inspiration will be taken from you and placed on mine =) Door handles for sure, and diggin the bike carrier that adds some mid storage!

Nice looking Quicksand Tacoma you have there.

 

I can only locate the "clean metal primer" by rust-oleum at my local HD. It is a primer meant to be used on bare metal with rust protection, I think it should be fine. Or, do you think I should look at some other stores for the self etching primer? Also, did you metal brush the sliders to remove burs and then wipe down with some rubbing alcohol? Thanks!

 

I'm no expert on primers but you should be fine. I'm surprised HD didn't have the self etching or Rustoleum also makes auto specific primer. But my guess is any primer is good.

Didn't do the metal brush because @allpro did a fantastic job on their welds and it didn't look like they needed it. I did however rub them good with rubbing alcohol

 

Put on some Lamin-x yellow film on the fog lights. Not the best instal but not bad for a first time. Hard to not have bunching on the edge of a curved surface. They were on sale for Memorial Day so for $12 it was worth a try.

Also helped a buddy put on his Truckcoversusa tonneau cover. Pricey covers but such a nice tonneau.
