Probably a bad choice of words. Had time is more appropriate with a new family. Oh, well. Have a good day guys.

Edit: But I was bored at the time, if that means anything.

Ah, understandable in your case. My wife lives 1200 miles away, so I'm pretty much free to do stuff whenever I want to to my truck.

Installed my tailgate reinforcement. I got myself the reinforced hardware kit from Mobtown Offroad, which worked out pretty well for the most part. When I put the reinforcement on the tailgate, the holes didn't all line up 100% - I still need to drill/widen the holes a little bit to get the remaining four screws in place. Even without the hardware all installed the tailgate is so much sturdier now!

The only major problem I had is that one of the reinforced hardware points came loose from the tailgate, and did so when I was about halfway through screwing the screw in place. As such, I can no longer loosen or tighten the the screw. In my desperation to remove the screw, I ended up breaking the screw head off, and now I just have a sheared screw sticking out of the tailgate. I am not 100% sure how I'm going to fix that, although part of me wants to just grind it down with a Dremel and leave it be - I figure one unsecured mounting point isn't a huge deal. We shall see though! Photos below:

The [nearly] finished product. Looks clean.

You can see the holes that I need to expand in this photo.

    They're just slightly off..

This is the one broken one. Still not certain how to move forward with this guy. I'd like to drill it out but I am concerned that I will damage the threaded insert within the tailgate in doing so. Any suggestions are welcome!

A little late but since I purchased in Aug 15...

    - All new LED interior lights, including red map lights
    - replaced air and cabin filters with K$N lifetime filters
    - all new Alpine amps and speakers including a 10" shallow profile and sealed box that I built
    - all-weather mats in the front

    Current future plans...
    - long tube headers with high flow cats and Borla exhaust
    - aftermarket replacements on the suspension (new to the subject and still researching)

Can you just clean the threads and put a nut on it?

I'd just take some vice grips and use those to get it out.

Oooh I like that idea very much. Maybe a nice low-profile nut that won't get caught on things. You're a genius!

Loaded her all up to drag friends 19' cc to the beach because his f250 dizzel keeps having issues.

Finally getting her where I want her. Wheels and maybe sleeping platform, and I'm done.

Temporarily remove the tailgate reinforcement, double nut that screw then back it out. Try that first. If that does not work use the Dremel to create two flat sides then use the the vice grips to try to remove it.

I've just effed myself in the past by trying to do something like that and then the vise grips destroying any bit of good thread I had left all while not removing the bolt. If it's not that tight yet then he can probably get it out no problem, but I haven't dealt with this hardware kit so I dunno
