If it was me i would run away as fast as possible. The only true way of removing every last bit of rust is to do like the guy above said pull the cab and blast the frame.

I agree. I dont have my own mechanic and a Ford dealer is where they apparently got the safety done yesterday. Do they check the frame integrity during certification inspection? if the truck was not located 4 hours away from me I would have an easier time getting things looked at.

Maybe it was parked one winter of the 6 it's lived? Your last shots are the most revealing at this point. Rusty spare and diff housing doesn't bode well for the frame IMHO.

I'm thinking if you buy this you'll wind up like your screenname. Clipped. :D

It was parked for the winter of 2015/2016 however they claimed to have started it and moved it regularly

I would pass on that one. If there is that much rust that you can see think of what's in the areas that you can't see. There are plenty of used Tacomas for sale in better shape.

Hamilton Ontario here. My 2010 chassis was getting to about that point last fall. 66k km's on it at the time. It had been rust proofed on initial purchase, but was definitely due for a re-do 4 years down the road, literally/figuratively.

Superior fluid filmed and panels internally sprayed took care of it.

It is what it is, when the sand/salt mix they use on the roads, turns into salt brine in milder temps.

Honestly buy one from somewhere that has no rust. I bought my last Audi in So California and drove it 3000 miles back to Vermont just for the reasons of rust best decision I've ever made. It's well worth the trip and you can find some great deals, plus its a great way to get to know the truck!:burnrubber:
Plus That is quite the hefty price for something that rusty.... There are plenty of options but I would most definitely shop around!

I wouldn't buy it personally but if I was to I would have the guy lowed the price to cover the cost of having it fully removed of all rust and resprayed.... Don't forget that it can be easier to make an interior look perfect than it is to try to fix bad frame rust.

    Hey op

Why don't you check out trucks in B.C. we dont get now snow here anymore. Our winters consist of rain. Why don't you line up 6 or 7 trucks and fly down to yvr and go check them all out. I can give you a hand on what's close to the airport and what areas to stay away from and which dealer ships are worth looking at. Might be worth considering if you get a truck that isn't rusted out and it saves you some money yo pay for the trip. we have lots on the market. Pm and let me know if this interests you

yea the truck is located on the shores of lake Huron and apparently the mixture of salt, heavy winters, and gravel roads took its tole. it is a 6 year old Ontario truck so I have to expect some rust though.
what do you mean by "Superior fluid filmed and panels internally sprayed took care of it"? Is this a service you paid for?

Actually, it was Krown fluid film - Superior and Krown are both local franchises which do a version of fluid-film spraying of chassis and body panels. Superior, i've also used in the past.

Needs to be applied annually to maintain protection, about $140.00 when i did it last fall.

So your truck was as rusty and you used Krown? How did it hold up? Do you have any pics of what it looked like?

Krown is a very good route to go. I have a 2010,and in Upstate NY. The frame looks as clean as my 2007 with the new frame under it. I pay about 150.00 U.S. Dollars a year to have it treated, and throw the tech. that does it 10.00 for beer. He spends around an hour + each time doing it,and the truck has survived extremely well. That truck is priced very well, at around 16 K US, if the frame was clean. Good luck and hope you make out well.

not as rusty.. if i had left it another year or so, it would have been at your level of decay. It was definitely starting to rust at weld seams, as well as an overall patina of surface rust on any exposed chassis. The cursing of the tech replacing suspension components and having rust fall away on him, was enough to tell me that i needed to do something about it, right about then.

My spare definitely wasn't as screwed, as your's is.

I think i'd be passing on this one also.. there are others cleaner than this, I just don't think you'll find anything approaching perfect in Onterrible with 5-6 years under it's belt. Whatever you get - protect it from further decay.
