when you guys talk about using airbags, is that in place of something. Does it take place of the leaf springs? Also I assume they are only for the rear? So someday when I save my pennies I plan on getting a good mall crawler meaning don't mind spending $ for reliability. Are airbags the way to go for me? Cost more than new leaf springs? TY

If your just mall crawling, why spend the money? Good leaf packs are really not that expensive.

Normally they're for towing or putting a lot of weight in the bed. When we tow with our tundra our rear ended gets real squatty. If we had airbags you'd put more pressure in then to lift it back up to help maintain ride quality. Then you can let air out when not hauling so the ride isn't so harsh.

People typically mall crawl BECAUSE of they're shitty lifts.. You don't often see someone with a 6" puck wheeling and you don't often see (at least in a non-bro truck form) people with 2.5 3" Kings mall crawling. Granted there are exceptions but if you want to mall crawl throw a cheap ass lift on and spend all your money on circular mirrors you have your tires stretched onto. It's what most the bros do.

Oh; and don't forget colored lights. Color everything. Your 50 light bars, x4 halo rings, your tail lights, your under glow, your grille. If you want, change the game and put colored LEDs all over your windshield.

To answer your actual question two paragraphs later, you add air bags to your existing suspension if I'm not mistaken. Be sure to actually add a switch and air compressor, though..

I laugh, not at your lack of airbag or suspension knowledge, but your lack of Google-Fu :D

Have you tried something like 'Tacoma airbags' in a search engine? ;)

To cut to the chase, air bags are generally used not to give additional height in the rear, but to help firm up the leaf springs to haul loads more comfortably and safely. If you want a mall crawler, just throw blocks on the rear and spacers on the front. Otherwise use the search function and spend a few weeks learning about the different kinds of lifts available to you. There is a plethora of knowledge available to you on here if you look.

Lol, wow tough crowd. I did search but I still never found anything that fully answer question. It was actually my searches that started making me think that the airbags actually totally replaced leaf springs, sorry don't remember link but was on dodge site. As far as going cheap route putting blocks in for a lift I feel that would be a total mistake considering I said reliability is a concern because in the searches it explains many times why they are bad and you get what you pay for. Also since treated so nicely by some I guess I will explain a little more. I do/will off-road but not hard enough to be considered hard core so I just refer to it as mall crawler. I am so very sorry and feel I owe my first born for asking a question I hadn't found the answer to from people who had experiance with my truck. I ask forgiveness.

Air bags are "helpers" for load carrying. They do "pop", although over the years that has become more and more rare. Not good for off road.
TW is not a tough crowd, just mainly a bunch of assholes and shitty advice. A lot of people that DO off road refer to their trucks as "mall crawlers" poking fun at those who never leave the pavement. I'm sure you were also poking fun at that term, but then again you baited this with the title and TW is full of assholes, some of the Mods being the biggest. This is the last place to ask for advice, especially on something that has been questioned a million times.

My truck goes off the road a pretty good bit, but not with the intention of offroading just for fun. I use it hunting, fishing, and such. Therefore, I kinda chose suspension components that would be best for my needs. That was OME coil springs on 5100 shocks(set at zero) Light Racing UCAs, and a Icon add-a-leaf in the rear. It lifted my truck 3" and allowed me to run bigger, more aggressive tires and have more ground clearance. It rides and handles really nice on the street too. It's what I would consider middle of the pack suspension and mid-range priced. I'm happy.

Ty. Gottatoy. If fully thought out this forum would have very little info as one reads ones instructions than changes it a little and so on which is what makes forums informative. If we only went off one answer via always doing searches we might not learn alternative ways to do something. And as stated my search didn't answer all my questions and that is y I regretfully stuck a gun to some of these guys heads and made them read and reply

You don't want bags for daily driving and off road use. They are more for hauling and towing. Get yourself some prgressive AALs or Deavers/Dakars.

I think Dodge commercials have gotten to me thinking they make the ride so much better and that's honestly why I started thinking about the bags, wasn't really considering them just kind of a thought

Now you're talking. Give it some time and let these people wake up a little. And as others have said, search the ever living shit out of your subject.

I myself have been gaining knowledge for 2+ years and still don't feel ready to buy my lift lol

Yeah as soon as I think I know what I'm going with I read something different lol. Sometimes researching to much confuses you even more lol. I just don't mind spending a little extra and have more of a suspension than I actually need so I know it will last. After all dependability is why I went Tacoma in first plaxe

If you have the money to spend, get something with adjustable dampening, you won't regret it. If I had to do it all over and had money to blow, I'd do a Total Chaos +2 kit with King's w/remote res. and adjustable dampening. once you start, there is no end, so just do it all at once and be done
