This thread made me not buy a Tacoma, which I was ready to do this spring (hey, I even bought BAMF sliders for it and have them in my garage). I am postponing the purchase, and even buying a toy vehicle (convertible) instead for now. I may revisit Tacoma purchase in 1-2 years. They better get their shit together.

Sounds just like my post after I put on a Flow Master muffler :D

Luckily, I put the stock parts that were removed into the packaging the Flow Master
came in and tucked it into the bed......... just in case. Went back 2 days later
and had it put back to stock.

I've run my 2000 4runner in ECT mode 100% of the time, every day, in every condition, for a year now. I refuse to drive this slug without ECT on.

lol, nice. I do like the way i t performs with it on, even without it, I like the
truck but the extra oomph from the ECT is nice - gotta figure out how to make
    it STAY ON! :D

Well, I had the Borla muffler installed yesterday. I could tell that the resonating or vibrating was gone...BUT...BUT... That particular muffler buzzed more than a can of bees!!! During acceleration the "buzzing" was so obnoxious that I could feel it in the floor board and accelerator! At idle it sounded damn good, but as it revved it sounded like ASS, IMHO!!! I drove about a mile, called the installer back and was like, "Man get my old muffler out of the dumpster"!

It was too late to go back, but I decided that since I had to be to work early, 6 am, it would be a nice quiet time to give the Borla one more chance. Once again, during hard acceleration it sounded obnoxiously loud and the sound caused slight vibrations in the floor board and accelerator. At cruising speed, 55-75, the sound was noticeably louder than stock with a low deep buzz. I didn't feel anything in the pedal, the floor or the steering wheel(never noticed any vibrations here before).

I just returned from having my old muffler put back on and it still has the resonating in the pedal at the 1500, 2000-2200 rpm range. Not bad like before, yet it's there! After putting the old muffler back on I'm damn certain it's the exhaust that contributing to the problem which has its origin at the source...the engine! The transmission software causing the tranny to eagerly get into the top gear ain't helping either!

Anyway, that's all I got. I'm sticking with the stock exhaust unless there's an after market one that doesn't buzz like a bunch of angry bees.

    Well then....ouch.

How did they swap mufflers? Did they chop your pipes and then use clamps? Or did the weld them?

I am very surprised it was obnoxiously loud. The ProXS is supposed to be pretty quiet. I emailed Borla and they said no drone, silent under most cruising conditions even for the S series.

But to get it straight, you said you didn't feel it in the floor, pedal or steering wheel with the Borla. But when you put the stock one back on you can feel it vibrating the pedal? When you had the stock one put on again does it feel the same as when the stock one was on before?

The Borla is smaller so they added a piece. When they removed it they cut it out and welded the original back in place.

Correct, the "buzzy-sounding" exhaust caused a slight vibration in the floor and pedal, but this was only under hard acceleration. While cruising there was no vibration. Yes, I felt the vibration in the pedal just like before once the old muffler was in place.

Dude, that ProXS muffler was LOUD to me under acceleration, especially under hard acceleration! Maybe I'm just old! I'm 48!

I hope you call and let Toyota know...or at least let your dealer know. They need to see that it's causing them to lose sales before they will do something.

This would be what I call standing behind the issue and is part of being a Representative of the Toyota brand and product. These issues are very well documented over the years not just w/model year 16. The Toyota/Lexus engineers can build super cars they should be able to fix a vibration or other issues.

    Just my take!!

As it should be and I agree but it will never happen. Hell, many slealershits are happy
to document work "preformed" on the work order that never happened so why
would we expect them to actually stand behind anything?

Absolutely agree!! And then with proper documentation and indisputable evidence you pursue other recourse these issue are very well documented. I did it with 2013 Ford Escape on a buy back and won with 24 hrs before mediation hearing they new they would lose period.

This is 2016 and these type of issues should not be happening with a $34,000 plus car/truck that has been experiencing this for 6/8 plus years.

I guess I am kind of lucky as I did have some low speed vibrations 20/30 MPH but when I changed out my tires they went away.

Horrid customer concern....they must think they are too big to fail.....it'll be interesting to see how much their sales get eaten in to by the likes of the new Ridgeline or the upcoming Ranger....not sure where I'm heading at this point; however, this Taco should not be too long for my garage unless they come up with a fix.

Sad...I always thought Toyota was better than that...

I'm actually kind of excited that Jeep may be coming out with the Comanche again. I'm not excited about Jeep's reliability though. My GF was going to get a new Cherokee until I looked at the reliability ratings.

As bad as you want that to happen to validate your disappointment...the Ridgeline ain't gonna do it...the Ranger is still a mystery. Although, the 3rd generation for some, is not what you thought it should be the truck is a long way from a failure...a long, long, long way! Hell, I like mine, pedal vibration and all!!!

There is a solution? I would rather have a Taco, but I'll take a Honda or Ranger if this problem isn't fixed by the fall
