Looking forward to it. He's at a fun age. He "gets" things now.
That is the plan for the truck....to be our adventure wagon.

@Deejay54 Operation Thing1 driveway camp out test went well. Has been hotter than balls here the last couple days, so it took a bit to get the back cooled off. Once the sun went down he settled. He woke up at about 6. Slept pretty much through the night.
I think he is ready to get out and about.
Asked him if he liked it. Response - "uh huh"
Want to do it again - "uh huh"

...^^^... That photo could be in a commercial for Toyota ... i.e. little girl's hands extended & throwing ball ... and ball in the air against the sun made it super cool.

I came in here to say a few things about camping:
    1. The ground is not an insulator. It will suck the heat right out of you. If the ground is overly hot/warm for some reason (baking in the sun all day) it may warm you up, but as soon as it cools...its going to suck the heat from you.
    2. Pads are not specifically for "comfort". They insulate you from the ground (which isn't an insulator in case you didn't read #1)
    3. To reiterate once again, I will point everyone to backpacking quilts. They are basically sleeping bags without a bottom. Your sleeping bag compresses when you lay on it offering minimal insulation, so they got rid of that extra weight. Your bed roll/sleeping pad is what provides the insulation.
    4. You can 3-4 season hammock camp. They make specific under quilts that you hang under the hammock to provide the insulation that a sleeping pad normally would. Hammocks are cooler in the summer not because the ground is an insulator, but because air is flowing all around you. If you put an underquilt you'd get nice and toasty.
    5. Sleeping directly on the ground especially if it's cold out is dangerous. Because it's not an insulator.
