I'll be able to help the manual transmission guys out I would imagine but I do not have an auto trans truck to do any testing on.

Crawl control.... Oh you mean 4low and 1st gear...

Joking only auto trans owners. I Just don't feel the need to have computer to tell me how to drive. I like to get my self outa trouble.

Everything is now controlled by the 4WD ECU. A quick cursory check and it's most likely going to be looking for 4WDL to be tied to ground. Possibly at Junction J14(B) on the Violet colored wire. It's hard to tell what it's going to be looking for, and it could be a combination of things. For the 2WD, there are no additional inputs to it's basic 4WD ECU. Whether you can fool the system or not successfully is unclear. The diagrams are in wiring3.zip.

Bless your heart @aggie77 for posting these!

    [Looking at the RearDiffLock-4WD.pdf file]

If the solution is going to be simple, it would be the Pin 3 of the 4WD control ECU, helpfully labeled as the FWDL input.

There's a yellow wire leading to J14(B) connector where a violet wire that goes off to the transfer shaft actuator assembly that (I believe) grounds that line if the transfer case is in 4Lo. Interestingly, a grey wire leads off to the skid control computer (probably to disable VSC when in 4lo).

So... if this is going to be easy, grounding the grey, yellow, or violet wires would trick the system into thinking it was in 4lo and allow you to engage the locker. HOWEVER, if this 4WD "computer" has any error checks, it's going to know something's up and laugh in your (our) face. It worked on the 2nd gen, so maybe it would work. You would just need to find where those connectors are located and try grounding that line and see if it works.

    Open to other suggestions.

[Edit: Looks like I doubled-up on what unixadmn said first]

I'm really interested in a permanent traction control disable. If there isn't snow on the ground I don't want it on. Especially not when hitting gravel forest service roads at high speeds.

☝️ That seems like a good time to Have TCS. Not to turn it off.

I don't like interference with my feel of the road. I used to spend a lot of time building and driving drift cars, and after running completely analog and manual for so long I can't get used to computers messing with my flow.

Unplug a wheel speed sensor. That'll
    Disable traction control and ABS

What else does that mess with? Seems like there would be error messages all over my dash

Yes , if you unplug a wheel sensor your dash will light up like a Christmas tree. I'm not sure if the vehicle will go into limp mode or not.

Shouldn't. Doesn't affect the power train. But you either want all the traction aids or you don't.

One problem is your check engine light will come on which will make it illegal to get a smog check in California.

Please experiment as I have, if you unplug the wheel sensor and drive the check engine light and lots of others will come on.
