I figured this had something to do with emissions, my subaru revs it self up on its own while coasting in neutral sometimes.

It is not that I don't believe you but could please post some pictures of your 2011 Camry with 6-Speed MT. I am really intrigued.

It is for keeping the catalyst warm. 2nd gens did it and lots of complaints were filled against it. The sudden drop in RPMs is detrimental to the chemical process inside the cat. It's the norm now, and we'll be lucky to see manual trans past 2020 thanks to emissions testing.

It's too difficult to control the emission output of a vehicle using a manual transmission for many reasons, the electronic throttle reduced many of the issues, but there's too many variables.

The only answer I've seen Toytoa give is just slow down the shifting.

That's a pretty fucking stupid idea just for a minor Rev hang.

Stupid to us that want to shift quickly. But remember, its a truck, not designed for quick shifting. If you shift it slowly and give it a second in between shifts, you're completely fine. From Toyota's point of view its genius, since they can maintain their emissions crap while still catering to a niche group of Tacoma owners that want a manual. And lets be honest here guys, we are a select few that still want manuals, especially in a truck.

my 2009 does it mainly when shifting from 4th to 5th gear. my old 1988 toyota truck didn't do it. it is a new thing. i would never want a tacoma that wasn't manual....or any car for that matter. i've been driving manuals since i started driving.

Like I said, its only noticeable if you're trying to slam through the gears, if you actually just shift gears slowly and correctly, its will not do anything to your shifting. I dislike it when I'm trying to whup up on some full size's that think they can smoke some little mid size, and shifting 3-4-5 throws my RPMS all over the place because the revs wanna hang

Just picked up a new 2016 MT and I can tell you there are absolutely no issues. My last 5 cars have all been manual, different makes, with no surging at all. Check you camry for other issues.

It is an interesting theory but do you think the cat temperature and chemical process would change to any measurable degree if engine fuel supply was cut 0.3 second earlier than it is now?

This is totally awesome. You got a 2.5L I4 with 6MT combination, which is a nice setup.

ARE cap, wade inchannel vent visors, weathertec floor mats, ranch hand grill guard, tuffy security boxes in bed, lockable tailgate handle. Still have stuff that needs to be installed and still have stuff ordered lol.
yes it is normal for them to rev up when u push in the clutch pedal, its like putting a transmission in neutral is best way to explain it.

Lol why is it stupid? If anything EGR vavles are stupid, i caped mine off on my motorcycle. Vehicle run more efficient when you get rid of as much of the emissions crap on them as possible.

But you cannot use "heel-and-toe" when upshifting. That was when I minded the rev hang most.

All newer cars do this guys. My 2012 Civic Si that I sold to purchase my '16 taco did this and the taco does it too. I'm not driving my taco like I did my Civic Si though... so never was an issue to me in the taco.

If you need someone to explain to you why it's a bad idea, you shouldn't be modifying street legal cars.

All the Drive By Wire Vehicles with Manual Trans will experience Rev Hang, I noticed a huge difference from my old 2000 to my 2008 but after a short period of time I got used to it and never even think of it any longer.

Lol as soon as you swap out an exhaust for an aftermarket one it can be deemed not street legal. Some vehicles need to be modified to make sense, for example anything with a cummins now needs to have the egr, dpf and def deleted if you want the truck to actually perform how it should.
