Aviation BS and Photo Thread

Airshows are a very organized activity, even more so when it is a multiple ship performance. Sometimes it is as simple as one aircraft never flies below one altitude over show center while the others never flow above that altitude at show center. Or north/ south, east/ west of the show line. If you watch the head on passes, one aircraft is usually slightly left of the runway and the other is slightly right. Still gives the illusion of a close call but is actually wider than it appears.

Every summer the Tora Tora Tora scene is performed at Oshkosh and probably has better than 50 aircraft involved. Bombers, fighters, patrols, trainers, recon, simulated adversary aircraft and pyrotechnics. Plus the air boss flying overhead in a B-47 managing it all.

 

Heard that "run outside" sound again today, multi radial....

...and it's a four-ship diamond of T6s.

My buddy and his bro or dad usually organize and fly in the one over old town Auburn CA every memorial day.

Yes, bought her pretty cheap and basically overhauled it myself. Lots of fun once you get a hang of that manual throttle!

 

I was on a bike ride this morning when this Mitchell ran across the road in front of me. Beautiful aircraft.

FWIW ... bombers used to routinely to go up and down Highway 41 in Marietta, GA ... from the Bell Bomber Plant during WW2.

Spotted this guy flying around today, shot this pic from fishing point.I've seen him here before, a pretty helo, all gloss blue.

I was probably a mile away because of the traffic ... and it looked like a real dogfight behind the buildings and the trees at that distance.

PDK was "crazy crowded" that day ... and the roads were blocked for several miles around PDK too.

I would love to fly that just once!

What a "Top Gun Type Pilot" looks like before graduating from USAF ROTC in college.

This guy worked for me and later became a super pilot in 111's (over Libya) , and an IP in 16's and etc.

I know he did the raid on Kadaffy and I think it was in a 111 with many refuels and go-pills.

That was a super long bombing run to Libya ... IIRC.

PS ... He is retired now as those pics were taken in about 1978.
