Was doing some work on the truck today and towards the end of the day I noticed some oil around the the bottom of the transmission and frame. I took some pictures. What could it be? Is it serious?

From looking at the pics, I think that's engine oil..... not tranny fluid.

Does it smell like tranny fluid?

Looks like motor oil to me also.

Most likely the front of the engine somewhere. I'd clean it all up and run it for a bit and then look for the leak. Timing cover or main crank seal up front.

Just took a closer look at it. It's definitely engine oil, and I believe it is coming from the timing cover. Where should I go from now?

Clean it up then run it and look for the leak.

    Good info above.

    I have to ask.

Did it look like this the last time you changed the oil?

Look by the power steering pulley. In one picture, the front portion of your upper oil pan looks clean. If there is not a leak at the timing cover, check the valve covers, and the oil dip stick. The o-ring on the dip stick where it goes into the oil pan. Breaks very easily.
