    ABS sucks.
I picked up an inexpensive fiberglass cap last fall just before a Scout camping trip. It's hideous white. I would like to paint it black to match the truck, but I'm on a tiny budget this year... :(

I'm usually pretty good with a rattle can, but not on broad flat surfaces, so I was thinking Plasti-dip or Hammerite.

I'm not looking for 100% perfection, but the white has to go...!

    Thoughts and suggestions?

I did the same thing on my $40 "Blue" camper shell- Scotchbrite pads, masking tape, old newspapers,2-4 spray cans of "Quality" Black paint ( not Plastidip or Bedliner) then wash really well & have at it -Take your time with the prep & painting-You'll be pretty good at broad flat surfaces when you're done

You can get amazing results using a roller. I've done it several times.

Just make sure prep work is done good.

Sand the cap, then wipe down with a paint prep solvent.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.

I got Maaco to paint mine for less than $400 and it looks really good, perfect color match...

I used a sprayer similar to this to paint a fiberglass dingy. Came out awesome. Far better than the rattle can approach since you'll find a hundred uses for this thing, or you can sell it on Craigslist when you're done and recoup much of your cost. Practice a little on something else before you do the cap. And just be anal about cleaning it out after each use and it will last forever.

Interesting choice. Not sure I would have went with black on a Silver Taco. Don't get me wrong, it looks like you did a good job. The color combo isn't bad. Black usually works with most everything ...

    I don't know ... It's just ... I don't know ...

Got it. The black fenders are throwing me off. Have you considered running a black stripe along the bottom of the truck?

just got done with this myself. found a great fitting one for 50 beans, in good shape, but white. I decided black rattle can, on mgm taco.

not perfect, but good enough. I will end up switching out the solid (windows) for dark lexan or similar.

Vinyl is cheap enough. I'd wrap it.

Google "Roll and Tip"; it's a method of painting that boat guys use for putting smooth finishes on fiberglass. With the right paint (maybe a good marine paint) you could get some pretty great results.
