As there shouldn't be. Rust should be sent back to hockey school. He forgot the first lesson ; keep your head up

 

Yeah Marleau didn't leave his feet, he didn't target the head (he was looking away when contact is made), and he didn't even hit the player with the full force he could of legally brought to bear. Really, Marleau went high to knock his mark off his feet and ended up taking the head in what was really a minor hit compared to the way Letang stood up to his man. While they are similar, they are not the same hit.

 

Rust had just lost the puck , Marleau kept his elbow in , Rust was leaning forward with his head down

Letang has made a lot of poor decisions lately and seems to be playing like a frustrated teenager. His hit was clearly intentional and he deserved his one game.

While Marleau's hit wasn't the same as Letang's, it was still an illegal hit to the head, which got him a penalty and should have been a suspension. If this wasn't the finals, he'd be suspended.

Head contact will never be eliminated from contact sport unless contact is removed altogether. At some point guys have to take responsibility for making themselves vulnerable. Rust basically stuck his fucking head out and it got clipped accidentally. If he skated across the blue line with his head up the contact would have been all body and we would not be having this discussion

You can clearly see once he lost control of the puck he picked his head up.

 

They teach you to keep your head up in Novice. If you're trying to learn that by the time you hit the Pro's you're more than just in trouble.

 

It's easy to armchair quarterback. Everyone makes mistakes.
