Lifting my truck just for looks, Got some questions.

Hey guys, I have been browsing the forums since I got my taco just never joined untill now.


I am going to lift my truck once I need new tires(wont be any time soon). I would lift it now but stock tires dont looks as good in my opinion as bigger ones on a lift. Thats why I am going to wait. But I have some questions.

-Whats the cheapest route I can take and will it still be good just for cruising around time?

-I know they make blocks for the front and thats all I need for the front (Toytec scratch N dent, ~80 bucks) But what do I need for the back? And would just the blocks for the front work?


Thanks guys. I am going to keep it kinda cheap cause I got to make some other big purchases for it then maby later on down the road(no pun intended) I will upgrade the lift.

Thats about as cheap as your gonna get thats functional...I know you said its just for looks and thats what this kit will give ya. But its still sturdy enough so that if you do go off road a lil bit it'll be okay. Just don't hit the bumps to hard (like going 30 over a speed bump) it could snap your strut in half. You half to remember that front spacers compress your front shocks, thus not giving it full range of motion so its easier to over stress em

 

Mainly I want it just for looks. I am not going to off road in it, I have other stuff for off-road.


When I say cheap I mean I have a budget of about 500 for this. I wanted to go with the blocks cause it seemed to give me just what I wanted, the lift. I just want it for looks.

 

I like those, so for just riding around I take it those will be nice?

I've got that lift I listed up above. The ride is okay but I do off road and its just not gonna work for me so i'm gonna get billstein 5100s on all four corners with Old Man Emu 885 Coils

those are you best bet for cruising around and whatnot. people love their billys and with those you have 3 different lift settings (4 settings including stock height) you can use which makes it nice and really friendly

hey Trunkmonkey, there really is no cheap way to lift your truck. yeah they sell those cheap spacer kits. but they will make your truck handle like crap! and i know from experience. they ride stiff because u lose suspension travel, and like scottcrumley24 said u can damage your truck because of that! u will not be able to get your truck to align to factory spec.s. wich made my truck wander and have very dangerous bump steer! i've used those spacer kits b4 and take it from me... u dont wanna go that route! listen to guys like chris4x4 and do your research and pick u out a quality kit that will have u riding good both on road and off!

 

yeah billy 5100's are good! maybe an aal in the rear if u need it!

 

if u run the billy's at 2.5 up front u may still have alignment issues?

 

I bought my lift before joining TW...Had I known that spacer kits are shit I would've never bought it. But it'll all gonna be fixed soon! I love this place! Like TacoSupreem said. Listen to guys like Chris4x4...he'll never steer you wrong and he pretty much knows everything about our trucks (he says he don't but he's full of it)

 

only way to correct that would be to get some upper control arms, and they would eat up your budget all by themselves!
