    Installing the 2.85 pulley is a one person job. Another person really would get in the way. The wrench can rest on the truck to keep it locked in place.
    And definitely no fuel pump upgrade is required. It would only be purchased as a preventative measure. My AFRs are fine with the TRD CAI and 2.85 pulley.

    This is actually pretty bad advice. If that shit slips off and you have to reset and start over, you run the risk of having the pulley get stuck on the snout from heat transfer to the snout bolt. Then you're fucked.

    Slip off? not going to happen. There is an anchor holding the pressor tool onto the snout. The only way it would slip off is if someone was helping you and the extra hands hit the wrench. Use quality tools and you will be fine. Same with the strap wrench.

    I'm talking about the wrench. Holding a strap wrench, a wrench to hold the tool in place and a wrench to turn the nut on the tool to push the pulley on. Unless you've got 3 hands, having a wrench slip off suddenly is gonna fuck shit up.

    so we are on the same page... putting the new one on, left hand holds front wrench, right hand holds far wrench, and strap wrench is what I have locked. No need for other hands.

    Removing is when you have the wrench wedged on battery, and it is not going anywhere...

    Ok, and when it slips off and you have to reset and the pulley gets stuck halfway on the snout, are you gonna personally come to everyone house and fix it? That is a dumb thing to recommend to everyone.

    if you are talking about the strap wrench I can't see how it could. Having done this procedure the only way it would slip off would be if it was initially set up incorrectly.
    So I will advise people then that if they don't know how to use a strap wrench and don't do a practice run with the old pulley on to make sure they understand how to use the strap wrench in this application, then have somebody help you hold the strap wrench. Just warn them the new pulley will be extremely hot and could cause a burn injury if an arm contacts it.

    Basically it comes down to if the owner doesn't feel capable or have all of the right tools, get a second set of hands. Plus, another set of eyes never hurts either.

    Bully dog didnt even get far enough into the computer to mess it up. Toyota said the obd port had bent pins and wasn't talking to the computers. after they bent some pins back they got 4 outta 9 computers to talk. They said that was enough to do the reflash. Then about an hour later they claimed that they got stuck on the same spot I did (one of the key turn cycles)

    Some Tacoma ecu's are unable to be flashed. That's why the install manual says to make sure it can be flashed prior to installing the blower.


    I installed the pulley myself and agree with torspd. It really depends on your confidence and capabilities. Some people work better under the pressure than others.

    As far as the fuel pump goes, I ran the 2.85 pulley for 5 months prior to installing the fuel pump. I never had any fuel delivery issues according to my afr's but the trucks powerband feels far stronger and smoother with the aem pump installed. For the two hours it took to install it was well worth it.

    It's only unable to be flashed if you had some other flash done it. Can't remember what it was, something was wrong on a few trucks that had to get a reflash and they are Fucked on TRD reflash

    And agreed on the pump. I ran without it just fine, had a couple spots I think under high load in 4th that it felt like a flat spot in power band that I think was fuel pump at max load, but after the install, everything just felt better, but my AFR went back to low 10s. I'll be happy for some tuning someday to get more power

    Ive had the truck since 30k miles on it. Back then it was completely stock and I certainly haven't tried to reflash it before. Just my luck:frusty:

    I had that happen to my '09 when I installed my supercharger. Techstream would talk to the ECU but it would not talk back. No reflash had ever been done as I bought the truck new and it took two days between dealer service and Toyota corporate to come to agreement that the truck needed a new ECU that was luckily covered by my warranty.
