I did grab a package of automotive weatherstripping from HD just to try and seal up the large areas to see if it'll help a little bit. But the area by the hinges and up where the tailgate meets the bed which meets the topper still has a good air gap which i did not try and tackle yesterday.

I sealed mine and there is more than the tailgate that needs attention.

Under the bed rail itself, there are a series of holes that run the length of the bed. (1st gen only I think) These are direct access to the space between the inner and outer skin of the bed and all the dust that gets under there comes through those holes as well.

I used that Great Stuff foam sealant.
I taped newspaper along the floor of the bed and up the sides to catch the foam droppings, and there will be a bunch because the stuff can't fight gravity right away.
Just start filling the holes. You should see foam dropping on the ground too as it expands between the inner and outer skin.
After it's dry, and not before, can't stress this enough, you can come back and easily trim up what ever mess was made.

Between that and the weatherstripping around the gate, I can bomb down the driest dusty roads and have very minimal dust get inside.

:annoyed: I wonder if that hurts the resale value if people are getting rid of their 3rd gen already.

That would only matter if you intend to sell in next 6 years.

I think you worry about stuff way too much.

Toyota was too conservative in the '16 model year update, or people realize they can get into a full-size truck (if they don't mind a bigger truck anyway) for the same or less money then the ridiculous prices on the new tacos.
