Well about that time again oil change. With all this talk about fuel milage and oil polls has or is anyone using mobile one 0-w30. It says on the bottle meets or exceeds Toyota standards for 5-w30. And also a 2% increase in fuel economy. I know 2% is not much what what do you think?

    Welcome first off.

I too have wondered about this oil.??????
So I just went ahead and put it in my last oil change last weekend...

I have not driven enough to check my mileage yet, so as for the savings???? I'll have to see.
I'll be watching this thread as to what others say, but from what I read else where it should be OK.

I'll be sticking to Toyota's recommended engine oil weights.

I put this oil in about 1000 miles ago. So far no issues. Engine MIGHT be quieter, but haven't noticed any substantial increases or changes in mileage. I like it though.

doesnt the 30 weight make it heavier therefore if anything decrease mileage somewhat?

i don't think it'd make any bit of difference. the 0 refers to the weight of oil when cold. it will flow better/quicker in cold temps but as soon as the engine is up to operating temp the oil will be at the regular recommended 30 weight.

I've used the M1 0w-30 since my first oil change @ 5k. Seems to be working just fine, I'm about to do my 15k change this week with 0w-30. I don't think that you'll see any kind of noticeable increase in fuel economy, but I like it because it flows well on cold starts.

 how long does it take for your truck to start to warm up? that is the only time that it will actually matter... (hint, not much at all!!)

but being from northern colorado, it might make a slight difference for you. here in sunny socal, it wont matter...my coldest starts are in the 45*F range!!

In socal I wouldn't think it would take too long to warm up, but I can tell you here in Mass when it's 9 degrees F in the morning, it's a full 7 miles before my temp gauge is at normal operating range.

right, but once the engine starts to warm up, the oil is already plenty hot and no longer taking advantage of the 0 weight viscosity.

To your point, it's probably only the first 15 seconds or less that it really matters, but there doesn't seem to be a downside to the 0w-XX vs. 5w-XX. The HT/HS rating is even fairly good for the Mobil 1 0w-30 (HT/HS of 2.9). Where I buy oil the M1 0w-30 and 5w-30 cost the same, so even if the 0w has only a slight advantage in cold flow, it's still an advantage.

Engine oil takes around 5 - 10 minutes of driving to achieve normal operating temp. The flow and friction advantage lasts for approximately that amount of time on a cold start, with no drawback. There is no disadvantage to this particular 0W oil. It is probably the best protection, best mileage oil that you can buy for the Tacoma. Also if you happen to live somewhere that has a harsh winter, you would definitely be increasing the longevity of your engine by using this oil.
