Sand in the tank, headlights, or electrical issues, the saga continues for the 4th time? (10/9/18)

    I'm with you OP. If someone actually poured sand into your tank it would have been very obvious in the fuel sock (I am still baffled as to why Toyota didn't go with an actual inline filter, especially on a truck exposed to all kinds of environments) and/or it would have completely torn up that fuel pump.

    I agree something is not right at all here, but it's all done now, hopefully you get many good miles out of the truck from here on out.

    I still can't believe people think a small wave killed the truck too. I mean come on, it isnt an ideal situation to be in, but by no means should one small wave kill the off road truck of the century. Just lol.

    Tons of sand intruding through the fuel door must be a 2016 thing. I've run Toyota trucks offroad through Utah, Nevada, Arizona, California, New Mexico, Colorado, never had even a teeny bit of dust inside the fuel door.

    I thought you said the truck was stumbling at Pismo, then recovered enough to get you to the hotel. If the truck was stumbling at Pismo that is where the problem originated.

    You got f'd somehow, but I don't think it was a Toyota problem. Thankfully insurance came through so you don't have much out of pocket.

    Vandalism can happen anywhere. Someone busted out 2 of my windows and damaged my door frames and a 3rd window. All In about a 5 minute period that I was away from the front window

    I agree it can, but wouldn't there be a lot more evidence of actual sand? I would love to have seen the filter sock. It should have been caked on that thing.

    I'd take it straight to the car wash after getting it back for some simulated "waves" that so many people think killed it.

    As far as the mechanic driving it, I'm ok with that. It'll be a real world road test, not a drive around the lot. Hey, if he wants to ake his family outto eat in it... go for it. I don't care.

    The trucks a manual so that cuts back the number of people who can drive it..

    Maybe the tech will notice it sticking in gear lol

    I wouldn't mind the mechanic taking it home. Actually, I would feel more relieved knowing the mechanic will be taking it and hopefully notating anything he may find abnormal with it.

    I believe they have to initialize the new system as well. It can involve a lengthy drive; so many minutes at a minimum speed... TIS calls it a "universal test drive" or some such.
