Secondary Air Injection Pump p2442

I hear ya, the shop manager made his usual request for a positive customer satisfaction survey response which I am happy to oblige!

 

If any one wondered, the pen is pretty mighty.

 

Mightier than a sword or so I am told.

Writing a quality review. Apparently a good review is important to this dealership.

 

My 2015 has had two pump failures. Fixed it the first time(see pic, less than 50k)

Second time it failed(around 57k) I couldnt find any noticeable issues and ordered a new one.

Dealer refused to cover it under warranty the first time.

Note, I don't have the extended warranty and the pump is not covered under the emissions law warranty thing.

 

Guys, the code 2442 and 2440 refers to the valve being stuck open, I just fixed the same issue on my 2012 Tacoma by tapping on the solenoid for the combination valve with a wrench. If you pull the hose loose from the injection pump and can hear your exhaust puttering out then the valve is in fact stuck open. As soon as I taped on the solenoid I hurd the valve shut. If the problem persist I will just replace the valve or clean/lubricate it.

 

I joined yesterday after my 2012 TRD Off-road Taco took a nosedive, after I jumped into traffic. I was looking for answers. 47,xxx miles and we are about to travel from Cincinnati to NC. I am severely disappointed in Toyota NOT proactively extending the warranty on these obviously defective parts that were also installed in the Tacomas, not just the Tundras.
I am very glad that I did buy the extended warranty this time, on my first Toyota new purchase. May be my last. I'm very disappointed with the fuel mileage that has never achieved the window sticker claims, and included the phrase "expect more!"
My buddy, Bobby, works for Toyota and gave me help. I scanned the CEL and got the P2442 code, called my dealer, who then told me there is a $96. charge to "diagnose" the problem. Promised to be repaired by this afternoon. We will see...

alright I'm gonna bring just update this thread since its been helpful for me diagnosing my issue. My 2012 has the same issue...same code, CEL and TRAC off light on. I informed myself as to what the issue most likely is, had the code read by a mechanic and then called Toyota.

Toyota said there is a warranty/recall open for this exact issue and while I have seen some folks on here post that it was a 10yr or 150k warranty I was told by Toyota that there was no milage cap and that it ended 2021.

I brought the truck in, they are looking at and hopefully fixing it over the next few days. Gave me a 2020 loaner taco right out of the gate. I was really impressed with the way that they are helping out on this, will update once things are resolved!
