May 21-22 Citrus Weekend Update:

For those headed up on Friday from the South:
The treasure coast group will be meeting at the Love's Travel Plaza on SR70 in Fort Pierce (turnpike exit) at 4PM if any of you would like to Caravan up.

 

Where and what time are you planning on meeting up on Saturday?

New Smyrna Beach Florida Tacomas Meet

Okay, I checked the dates and they aren't exactly thrilling. If we want to do the fall Camp & Ride again this year the only dates are October 14-16 and 28-30. Unfortunately, the first weekend is the weekend before opening day of Muzzle-Loading season at Croom and the second weekend is the weekend before opening day of archery season at Citrus.

Campground-wise, we could probably get away with the 14th-16th since nothing is going on at Citrus until November, but on the 28th-30th the Citrus campgrounds are liable to be a bit crowded with hunters scouting for their sweet spot.

Also, we could always give Croom a pass completely and hit that Red Rock place instead.

Any thoughts?

 

I say Redrock. Any place to camp?

 

I was thinking we'd do it the same way as last year: camp at Citrus Friday and Saturday nights and hit red Rock or Croom Sunday before heading home.

The only question is if we want to deal with the surly campground nazi at Holder Mine or if someone wants to step up and handle the reservations and financial obligation of Tillis Hill where they don't allow dogs.

 

Where is Redrock?

 

About 10 minutes north of Citrus. We have yet to scout it

 

Scouting trip?

 

Just an FYI a bunch of the clay climbing areas on the side of the trails at citrus have been poled off. The only decent area we found is that one down trail 11 I believe it was. Or trail 9 the one that runs down past holder mine further into the trails
Edit: definately not 11. Whichever the other crossroad is by holder mine

 

Trail 9 and trail 7 were the ones we did in the afternoon. 9 was the one with the all the climbing areas and had the side trail. 7 ends up with the deep washout and climb out to trail 10. There's got to be some other places to go in Florida. I'd be down to help scout Redrock this weekend.

 

Trail 9 is the one with the sand hill climbs. 11 used to have the big washout just south of trail 6 that they keep flattening with a dozer now. Trail 14 west of trail 13 is the one that had the big clay climbing area. I'm assuming that's the area they have poled off now. Is the big washout just east of that area (where Nigs spit his blocks out) still there or did they flatten that too?

That's still there. The climbs just beyond that are staked off now.
