It's awesome. It is a road trip mobile which is exactly what I was looking for with good enough off road capability. It's no rock crawler, but it'll go where I tend to go and save the tough stuff for the dirtbike. The airbag suspension is very smooth on the dirt roads and rocky terrain. It's got the Airmatic system to lift it 3" for some additional clearance. It's nice to cruise down the highway fully loaded with two boxes on the roof and still pull 23mpg. The diesel pulls like a champ through anything so far. I'll see if it gets stuck in the sand on the beach in Baja. It's easy to clean since it has a leather interior.
A trailer hitch comes this week which I'll install after Baja and other than that, I'll find a place for my HAM radio, portable solar for my fridge, and maybe larger roof rack system. I've been itching to get back into a trailer after I sold my offroad teardrop, so I'll likely be going back to a little trailer. For my style of camping, and now with two dogs, it's going to be the sure way to go.

Better on long trips but you still gotta play Tetris to pack up and go home vs just tossing it in the truck bed haha

That is the hardest thing about the SUV. Packing is a chore.

Hey guys, a little weird of a post but if you all don't mind keeping your thoughts and prayers for a kid named Hayden Werner and his family, I would greatly appreciate it. You may have read in the news the last couple of days that a 19 year old UCSB student was found hanging in a tree attempting suicide... he later died in the hospital. Well this morning I was reading the news and learned his name.

Normally, I say a little prayer whenever I hear that sort of thing, but the name was one a recognized. He was one of my physics students in the fall. Incredibly bright kid, earned an A+ in my class, was an honors student, and majoring in Biology. I talked with him a lot each week in class and he really was a cool guy, high ambitions. Just really wish I would have known that he was feeling this way, wish I could have helped as I've been trained in that sort of thing.

A little less than a year ago now he and his family lost his 22 year old brother suddenly. I can't imagine what the family is going through. My thoughts and prayers go out to him and the family.

Sad. I never heard about that. UCSB always suppresses suicides. When I worked for the police department, you would hear them come over the radio pretty often, but never saw them in our inboxes. They only send out emails about kids who are killed by something else.

    :(

Very sad news. Will keep him in our thoughts.
There's a reason for that. Suicide can actually be contagious. The media purposely suppresses stories about them in order to prevent more. One issue is copycat suicide. Remember most recently how many people were committing suicide on the train tracks in SB?

Yeah. I knew the reason. It's just kind of sad. A guy hung himself from a balcony in the res halls and somebody on a lower floor walked out to go to the bathroom at like 3 am with him hanging outside their front door. Never heard about it.

I read about that last week. Such a shame that happened.
The parents must be beside themselves with grief...I can't even imagine how that would feel.

yeah, this is my last quarter here. June 10th I graduate with a Master's.
I currently TA for the physics department although I am getting a degree in Environmental Sciences.
I teach physics labs, last lab sections today actually, then next week is finals.

Last chance to come with me to the Baja 500 and get a chance to work in the BFG pit #2 at race mile 221. We're leaving Lompoc at 2/3am and driving to Pete's Camp in San Felipe for a few days of margaritas and cold cervezas under a palapa.

Alright gentlemen. I'm thinking this Saturday or Sunday evening for the West run. Meet up at Big 5 around 5:30 or 6.

I'll be bringing a trash can, trash bags, shovel, rake and hopefully a tarp as well as some other toys and some steel. I'd love to leave the spot much cleaner than it has been this last year. There is a ton of trash up there and it's a real bummer.

    Who's in?

I might be down. Might be trying to get my new leafsprings this weekend though!

I have to make a run to the dump this weekend so it's almost perfect timing, but doing it Saturday afternoon makes it not possible as they're closed Sundays. I'd be in, but I can't store trash at my house, I already have too much shit to throw out! :anonymous:

Where do you plan to throw every out?
