Tried to use it a little while back on my 2015 but the noise it made while engaged was so horrendous I thought the transmission was going to explode or something. Wtf. Also it had quite the lag going down hill before it kicked in. Is this normal? My wife's DAC on her Xterra is silent and works flawlessly.

    Not enough...
Yeah, the manual says that you "may" get noise. I always get clicking or grinding noise when I used it.

When the system is in operation, the slip indicator will flash, and the stop lights/high mounted stop light will come on. A sound may also occur during the operation. This does not indicate a malfunction.

It has nothing to do with the transmission. The sound you are hearing is the brake module applying pressure as needed to maintain control while going downhill.

I tried it out once when I got my truck. It is loud. Never used it again.

    ^^ THIS ^^

All those noises are perfectly normal. I use it quite often exploring potential hunting & fishing sites on mountain forest roads (we call them logging roads) here in Maine.

How can Toyota have such a loud system when other companies have clearly found a way to make theirs silent??? I'll never use my DAC again

The noise is of less concern to me than than the actual functionality of the system, which works very well.

Sorry but that doesn't matter. You already paid for it so Toyota got their money. LOL

But really - Why on earth does it matter if it makes a bunch of noise? If you're crawling along and need DAC, you should care more that it gets you down safely.

It's not that it makes noise, it's that it makes that grinding noise that makes you think you are trashing your vehicle. Now if they could make it so that the noise coming from it was my favorite rock bands song i wouldn't mind lol.

Imagine if every time you shifted gears a loud clinking sound happened. Would it annoy you more than your other ride that is silent when shifting?

You are right, I shouldn't let it bother me. But it does damn it. Lol
