Gen 3 vs Gen 2 Dyno?

Are there any legit dyno charts comparing torque and HP curves for the 4.0 vs the 3.5. I saw a thread of a guy who ran a dyno on his manual transmission but was curious if there any charts to compare how the two different engines deliver torque.

 

I spoke to someone from off road extreme and they put both a 15 and 16 trd off road on the dyno, he showed me the charts. The 16 has a smooth and higher HP curve with slightly less torque than the 15.

 

Can you get a hold of those charts?

 

This is the best I got.

The jumps in the beginning were from a supposed issue with the dyno early on.

Hopefully this will quiet some of the 3rd gen hate. We're marginally less torque, with more power.

Anyone smart on these things know precisely what would cause the torque fluctuations between 35 to 70 mph? I thought I read an explanation on here somewhere.

No idea if the best "guesstimate" of the actual torque is the average between the peaks...or a line tracking across the peaks?

 

That actually puts to rest alot of BS in my head about the difference between the two. So I'd say the 2nd gen is definitely better at towing, since the Torque graph shows torque loading up pretty quickly, whereas if I wanted more Hp, they seem about even up until about 60 MPH and then the 3rd gen gets its peak gains with the high rpms and higher speed. Interesting! Very Interesting!

 

Why MPH and not RPM?

 

Sucks mid-sized trucks get hosed from the EPA while full size trucks often remained exempt.

 

Must be the 3.5 cycling between Otto/Atkinson/Otto/Atkinson multiple times.

I saw a dyno of the 3.5 used in other platforms and it had a nice smooth torque curve getting 80% of peak torque at 2000 rpm, much like the 4.0.

That was nice to see the dyno comparison, thanks for posting it. Maybe the torque fluctuations is why the auto trans is hunting between gears 4-6. With the manual trans the driver may not even notice it but the auto is sensitive.

 

Thats not true at all, full sizes just get more love from manufacturers becase thats where the money is. They can charge more and sell more for full sizes. Mid sizes just dont sell as well so they don't put the proper love and support in to them.

 

Makes sense, but seems odd it would cycle like that....dyno should be at full throttle, right? I would think that should be all Otto...

 

If you want to look at real world towing capabilities watch the u tube video of the third gen Tacoma towing a 5600 hundred pound trailer up the Ike gauntlet compared to the 2nd gen of the year before. Same trailer same weight. Toyota engineers probably know what there doing.

 

My 3rd gen hands down tows better then my 2nd gen did. These trucks have plenty of power in stock form for what they are rated for.
