I want to a floor style jack to carry in my truck but I'm not sure which ones out there are truly dependable. I looked through the forum and found some references scattered about but nothing directly about jacks.

I don't mind paying a little extra if need be to have a good one.
I would like it to be lightweight and go up quickly.

    Any suggestions?

Craftsman makes a nice little aluminum jack that's pretty popular in some circles. One of the off-road fab companies even makes a holder for it that bolts into the bed of the truck. I know all of that is vague, but do some searching. Maybe someone else will come along and fill in the blanks.

Harbor Freight has a 1.5 ton aluminum jack that is on the smaller side, would be easy to fit inside the truck. The price is great, too.

Many of us would have no way to pick up anything but the back of the truck with one (no sliders, no aftermarket front bumper, so we're left with just the hitch).

OP, I just bought one of these about a month ago: More expensive than the steel one, but half the weight. If I had a garage, I wouldn't care, but it's nice that it's less than 60 lbs when I lug it from the shed down to the driveway.

I dug around and it seems that nothing touches the Harbor Freight jacks for the price. The Craftsmans were at the same price point, but had horrible reviews and seemed to have a lot of failures. I have a friend whose father has had a 3 ton Harbor Freight steel jack in their garage for at least a decade and it still works great.

a lot of jacks recommended in this thread (was for lifted trucks but they still apply here)--> https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/floor-jack-for-3-lifted-tacomas.430325/

I use this jack but it stays at home:
    Arcan XL-35R
    3.5 Ton - Low Profile
    23 inch lift height
    $99 at costco years ago.

    (Not my picture)

I carry a hi-lift when I wheel otherwise I'd use AAA until I start carrying the hi-lift full time

This is what I have. Except now it's the XL325R 3.25 tons vs 3.5. Pretty sure it's the same, they just took the weight rating down a notch.

Of course these two are not lightweight. The only problem with the aluminum ones I found was weight capacity.

I got my Arcan 3 ton jack today. I looked at several of the others but with weight of some of them at 100 lbs + that was too much weight. This one weighs around 55 lbs. Thanks to all for the help.

Why are you guys buying low profile jacks for your Tacomas? Hell the standard Craftsman jack I have is barely tall enough for me to take off the front wheels.

I bought the Arcan XL-35R when I still had my wrx and had plans of lowering it. Luckily enough it lifts high enough to get the taco up in the air.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
    Kinda what I was thinking.

I actually just need stands at this point. I've got sliders and a hi-lift, I'll just take up one side and do any work I need, drop it, and lift the other side.

My main use is for the Tacoma but I will also use it for the BMW and Porsche. Porsche is much lower than the BMW.

Another vote for Harbor Freight I got a great aluminum racing jack similar to the $400 Craftsman for $159.

I bought a really cheap POS floor jack at Pep Boys thinking this will do for the time being, 15 years later it's still kicking.

My harbor freight one is heavy as shit, but works great. Any jack you get, I recommend reading the instructions (I know I know). I say that because a lot of reviews for the HF one said it would stop working after a few months, but in the instructions it says to top it off with jack oil, and bleed the system. A bottle is $5 and my jack was quite thirsty.
