I agree. Even sitting at a light my revs will jump 600 to 800ish then go down using more fuel. I can really tell the a/c is on when driving the truck going to the mountains. I have to turn it off because it is a parasite to my performance and I know it can really drag that 4 cyl you have. My dad has the first gen reg cab manual and we would have to fuel up sooner than when the A/C was off.

In my somewhat scientific experiments, I have found that A/C reduces fuel economy on my 2016 Tacoma by ~15-20%.

Just filled up this morning and I'll try to run without A/C this tank to see how it plays out. Should be a standard work week (mostly city driving) but with no A/C.

Went to FL for the weekend. Saw 24mpg over a 200 mile range with the AC on. Entire trip back I ran 22mpg driving 80-85 with AC on. I have a 2WD V6 auto. City driving to and from work nets me around a 19mpg. Happy with mpgs so far.

    Sounds similar to 2016BBP

I guess 2WD is the way to go if you're looking for the best MPG. If I go 80-85 with the A/C on, I get about 15.

Ran it down to 1/3 tank of standard regular with that bullshit ethanol mixed in. This morning I filled it up with ethanol free premium and drove home achieving 24.1 with a total change of elevation of 500ft through 5 or so miles of town stop and go traffic, the rest was freeway around 70mph. I'll report back once I drain this tank down. AC was on too, but pretty low, it wasn't too warm.

The idea of better MPG with 2WD was the selling point for me and looks to be paying off based on the feedback in this thread.

For manuals it seems that 55-65 will maintain and net you around 21-22 mpg using hills to your advantage.

I know autos will get better mpg than manuals, but manuals are way to few and far between to pass up these days. I knew what I was getting into with the manual and the somewhat worse mpgs.

Is their anyone with a manual with a smaller width tire such as the 245. I know SR5 is an auto but it seems to net a good mpg.

After greasing my U-Joints on my 4x4 DCSB 6 speed I'm getting around 22 combined city/highway mpgs. I'm extremely happy.

Much better than my 2nd gen. It gets 20mpg at best when doing 70-75mph.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
...^^^... Ditto ... and same from my experiences with my past 4x4's ... I get maybe 2-3 extra MPGs (10%+ to 15%+ better overall mileage)

This Tacoma get almost the same mileage as my 2015 CRV AWD.

I do not off road though ... if I did off road ... 4x4 would be a must.

I think many people passing on the manuals because they think they can't get them. Far from the truth. Any dealer that is worth a shit will order one for customer.

I just got 23 mpg overall driving 70-80 mph on a highway trip this Memorial Day weekend....Knoxville, Tn. to Charlotte, Nc. ....Also 444 miles to a tank...V6 4x4 Auto...No cruise control at all...

On an interesting note I was getting 25-26 mpg in heavy traffic at 70 mph....Less mpg on the open road with less traffic.

I understand. I had to order mine because I could not find this truck within the state. Too I was set on waiting for the vehicle I wanted not saying "that'll do."
