New Battery

So where do you guys get new batteries? Looks like mine has died one too many times so I'm looking to replace it, but Autozone doesn't stock batteries for our trucks with the tow package... Other ideas? I'm at work without the truck so I have no idea what size the current battery is.

Evidently they just don't have a different listing for the trailer tow pkg, as the batt is a common 27F vs the 24F on the non TT pkg's. Some brands use the R for reversed poles instead of the F for Ford type. I think Autozone batts are made by Johnson Controls, which is who makes the Interstate batts; if not they should be Exide's; either of which could be made to the seller's specs.

 

According to Sears' website, it's a group 34.... Which is around $190 for a Diehard from them! Thinking I might as well drop another $20-$60 for an Odyssey....

I normally do the wally world batteries as they last about as long as the fancy name ones and cost around mid $30s to mid$40s.
I can buy two for what some of the batteries cost

 

Normally that's what I do, however I have extra electrical components on the truck. And I want something that's not going to crap out on me if it drops to -25F again this winter.

Unfortunately, I also can't find car batteries on the walmart page.

 

Doesnt get that cold here in TX and the wally world ones have lasted a easy 3 years in the heat.
I will use the stock one till it fries then do wallyworld again as its just less cost for almost the same performance

 

I have a wallworld one in the trunk of my car. Contacts all corroded and made a mess over the straps I have holding it down. I'd rather not deal with that on the truck.

Mine has 24F right on the label, and all the ones I have seen with TT have said 27F; and the Toyota batt in mine is supplied by Johnson Controls. Lots of Toyota cars in the past have used group 34, 25, 24F, and 27F; with all shown on the same vehicles as options as to what part of the country the vehicle is shipped to, if or not it has a heavy duty option, and on imported models; if or not the batt was installed at the port of entry, or the factory in Japan. A group 34 is usually a consolidation number to replace several sizes when the manufactures does not have a perfect fit, AKA ,semi-universal and it is also one of the "combo" group numbers; 34 top post with a GM 78 side post; 34/78, and the smaller 35/75. The 34 battery is very close to the 27F in size, it is the large Chrysler battery.

Check to see if the DieHard is a dual post (side/top); if so, that would be the reason for that group number (34) as it is one of the combo numbers. $190.00?; it better be an AGM batt and come with a free Krugerrand as a keepsake.

 

Ok thanks. I may just have to go to the store and look around. Autozone seems pointless unless their system just doesn't list it, and the people can't figure it out. I guess I can try Napa too before ordering one online. I just wanted to go some place, pick one up, and be done with it. But nooooo!! First thing I see when I try to price them on Autozone's site is "except tow package" and "no tow package".

 

Personally I haven't had much luck at WW. 1 or 2 years max. the two times I've used them. I've noticed that a lot of the newer built WW's sell auto stuff, as in tires and batterys, but don't have an install shop?
I have a '88 Acura, now a out of town work car, that is only on it's third good battery with a 1 year gap in there with WW brand.
The original lasted 7 years as did the Interstate that replaced it. Then came the WW period. The 1st one started giving me grief in weeks. This was replaced with another WW and after a year, as in wouldn't hold a charge, it was back to Interstate. Interstate gave me $15 trade for the WW and it's been fine for several years now.

What BCI group number is actually on the label of your batt?

 

Don't know. Wife has the truck at home. Which is why I'm looking for a new battery. I'm tired of trying to walk her through how to setup the charger.

Get her to read it to you, if the label is in good shape it is right on top. Oh, and tell her PLEASE do not hook up charger backwards.

Alright, someone on here that has the OEM batt, go look and report back, do it for the cause; cause only you can help...........

 

You have no idea.... She didn't hook it up backwards last time, but somehow managed to miss the big red cap on the wire (it came off the top), and somehow also didn't see the 4 fused aux wires I had run to the pos. terminal. Needless to say she got a quick lesson when I got home. The charger is an automatic one and would not turn on if hooked up backwards. But it's still a pain in the ass having to talk her through it. Not to mention she can't go anywhere for a couple hours while it charges.
