Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
I'd say that's a good progression, @TastyTacos just remember some skid plates you really need to be careful how you plan it out. Gives you time to really learn what kind of offroading you enjoy and how to properly match your suspension to that need as well.

I'd also agree with Jimmy this is a slightly better progression :D

You don't NEED a winch, not everyone does in the majority of cases. That's a lot of weight, bumper considerations, power considerations, tons of stuff to think about to get that to work. Make sure it's really something you want to invest in. Could always opt for front/rear hitches and get one of those winch cradles? Bam. Winch front and rear you don't have to truck around all the time.

I actually read somewhere here a weld doesn't kill your warranty but a bolt-on does...

I'm beyond 60k anyway so who cares?

Agreed. Tires of course. But like I told @MADSTEEZE it's easier to sell your smaller tires now if you're going to up-size while they still have plenty of tread for the next guy.

These are great points! My line of thought was if I get new rubber, will likely get larger tires and can't run much larger without lifting, so save the cash on the slightly larger tire to wait for the need-a-lift or its gonna rub larger tire. Absolutely no disagreement that the rubber is the most important part since its all that touches the ground (hopefully!!). If I do decide to get rid of them, of course better sooner than later before I put too many miles on them.

I'm guessing the real limitation of the AT's that came with the truck is in wet and muddy conditions?

Well then fuck it weld them lol. I welded mine up to close to the pinch weld they hit go annoying after while but few offroad trips they worked themselves in.

If I were you (which I was, only in 2012) I'd drive that truck until the tires are nearing their end. Some schmo will still buy them! I may even know a guy who parts out tacos who may pick them up off you.

The most important part is: you don't want to go through all the shit of fitting a 285/75R16 only to realize it rubs so much it's a pain in the ass and the fuel mileage sucks and you want to get rid of it.

That's my largest concern! I know it will be a decent bill to do the suspension and tires at the same time, but will be worth the wait to do it properly with no rub and maybe even keep a semi decent ride. Will start to armor up in the mean time. The fuel hit, well..... 'Murica!! :oldglory:

My 2016 build has Mobtown sliders. They are bolt on but cradle the frame so there is no way they can move up. RCI 1/4 inch steel skids, full set with exhaust relocation(front, transmission, transfer case, gas tank). 285/75R/16 K02's with 16x8 wheels. Less wheel more tire is better in my opinion, I would of went 15's if they would clear the calipers.

Tires rubbed bad so I had my mechanic do the cab mount cut, pinch weld mod. No rub at all now. Rear bumper is next for me. CBI

Sorry for the late update on my truck situation, got it back this afternoon but had a hockey game to play right after.

So...the whole floor mats ordeal was too good and/or convenient to be true. Truck still makes the same audible grinding/rubbing noise going into 2nd at high rpm (floor mats removed) Not sure why or how they thought they had replicated it and fixed it, because it's the same as when I brought it in.

Although this is the same Toyota dealership I had my truck at last month for almost a week straight for a lean condition check engine light, and they basically said I was SOL and to take my truck elsewhere. I did, and the next dealership diagnosed it almost right away. Uncapped port on my supercharger causing a vacuum leak and lean condition.

I'm not saying this particular dealership has a crappy service department, but...yeah. Going to take it to a local shop later this week and see what they have to say.

I'm aiming to make the beach meet on Saturday if I can get a shop to look at my truck on Sunday. She still drives fine and has for the last couple of days without getting worse, so I don't think it's anything that requires urgent attention.

huh, that's interesting...thanks for the link! The way the OP describes his issue in the first post sounds almost exactly like mine.

The dealership today told me that they "checked my fluid level" but I doubt that means that they looked at it closely enough to determine anything other than whether or not it was full, let alone the quality of it. I'm thinking that it might be in my best interest to take it to a local, reputable transmission shop and have them take a look at it and see what they might think. Doing a flush might be my best bet for a starting point. I was in 4lo for a large portion of the trail run on Monday (not to mention our other runs over the last few weeks), maybe the stock tranny fluid from 2004 has run it's course. As far as I know, despite my truck's low mileage it has never been flushed or replaced.

In all honesty even if you were at 30k I'd say you haven't burnt up your tranny fluid, but the same gig comes back: guy before you put nearly 25k of track mileage on it for all you know. It's unbelievably coincidental considering what happened, but, a good start if it would explain it.

haha yeah dude! Been playing most of my life, mostly in goal. I was pretty serious about it as a kid but these days I just play in a beer league lol. Out in Pasadena.

I haven't tried Bob Smith yet, I usually go to Toyota of Pasadena because I work out there and I can just drop it off while I'm at work all day. They've seen so much of me though between this and back when I had my CEL they couldn't figure out...I think when they see me pull up they cringe lol. After yesterday's stupid 'floor mat' diagnosis I think I'm going to stop using them for any issues other than regular service maybe.

Think I'll give Bob Smith a try this weekend, that where you got your CV's replaced?
