Haha true it doesn't need to be any bigger, just more 'different' I guess. When I heard they didn't upgrade the suspension from 2nd gen or finally give us a 4cyl turbo diesel like the HiLux, I was a bit bummed. Was also hoping for 4-link solid front axle to. Wishful thinking:cheers:

    You said a 2000 - 2006 tundra was the best ever - and it used a 4.7, not a 5.7.

Yes the 2012 was available with the 4.6 which is also a nice lexus based engine!

I'm getting sick of reading messages like this.

I've got my friends 16' for the week while she is on vacation. It would BLOW THE DOORS OFF my '11. The 4.0 likes to hold its gear and roughly accelerate. The 3.5 likes to drop a gear or two and pull off like a rocket. It effortlessly gets up to highway speeds. With ECT on it is more responsive than the 4.0. With ECT off, you have to press the pedal down to get it to go, but if you do hit the gas, it will go. Different driving dynamics than the 4.0 but faster and smoother nonetheless.

People are complaining about the 3.5 not having enough power - a turbo diesel would have half the power and take twice the time to get from 0-60. You think toyota would be able to sell that on our freeways? Do you want 13 second 0-60 time? It's great in the outback, not on our roads.

Toyota isn't lying about their specs but you need 6,000 RPM to get that extra HP. Not many people spend siginificant amounts of time at 6,000 RPM's.

I came from the same model(2011) I have now(2016) and agree with all of this. I've had the same
people in both trucks and all agree, better in every way.

This. Just look at the specs POWER wise. It isn't built for our roads. And guys that want diesels but don't need them, just to "roll coal". Good luck with modern ecu's and emissions. Also, all this "my 2nd gen would blow the doors off your 3rd gen, because all your power is at high rpm"... Racing is done AT high rpm

Yes, mine has a delay but its really on non-issue. Back out of the driveway, stop, shift into D, wait 1 sec, foot off the brake and go. People are just looking for something to make a big deal out of. They think its a symptom of a larger problem. Not that some people don't have legitimate concerns about their particular vehicle which happen to have an issue but, the hysteria on this website is ridiculous.

Honestly, i think there is a delay so you don't destroy the tranny. In my dads old pontiac, as soon as you swapped gears it would change, and if you were rolling AT ALL it would make some awful noises. Toyota programmed it so if you're rolling just a bit it doesn't hurt the trans. Anyone wonder why toyota stuff lasts so long?

    I had a 2013 Lexus GS 350. I'm somewhat certain that the Tacoma's 3.5L is a variation of the Lexus 3.5L.
    Their specs are similar, except the Lexus has 306hp @ 6200 rpm, 274 lb-ft @ 3600 rpm.
    Tacoma 278 @ 6000 rpm, 265 lb-ft @ 4600 rpm

The Lexus was smooth as butter...of course. but DAMN that thing was noisy standing next to it! Quiet on the inside though...of course!

Relax guys, this isn't a direct attack against your Tacomas. When I test drove the 16', I personally felt it took way more pedal to get it up to speed compared to my 12'. As for wanting a turbo diesel option, that obviously isn't for being faster off the line, but wanting better MPG and torque for towing. And what is "roll coal"?

Same as my 2014 IS350, smooth and proven reliable engine.
However it doesn't have a torque at all, I would have to rev past 4k rpm to get real HP out of it on the IS350. Which would not be a good idea if you are constantly towing things. Other than its great MPG, its not the best towing engine.

Yes, those EcoBoost v6 mustang and f150 have been nothing but problems in the ford community.

My bad...I misread your post. You are absolutely correct in that my 2003 and 2005 Tundra's had the 4.7L V8. As I wrote earlier, IMO (and that "ain't" worth sh!t) the 2000-2006 Tundras were the best trucks Toyota ever built. They ran like a "scalded" dog, were a great size (for me), and looked great...not all "boxy" like the newer trucks. The only problem was that (I think) you had to change the timing belt at around 100K but I never kept them that long. Thanks for the correction...you know your Toyota engines!

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
Someone told me the factory/recommended oil is 0w-20 full synth and nothing but. Definitely a car motor in a truck it would seem.

Also: my 4L quite likes pulling 5,000rpm pulling onto the freeway. My Blackwidow exhaust loves it even more. :burnout:

My wife drives a 2013 Lexus RX350. You are right...it is quiet on the inside (much more so than my 3 gen Tacoma) but I have never noticed it being noisy standing next to it. That said, I'm not a fan of driving it (hate the push button start!) and she's not a fan of driving my Tacoma. One benefit, however, is that they both use the same oil and filters so I buy them in bulk packs from Amazon and the 0-20 Mobil 1 from Walmart.

RX350 uses a de-tuned version of the engine used in the GS350/IS350. The GS/IS engine has direct injection which is noisy (lots of clicking injector sounds). The RX uses the 3.5 out of the Camry / ES350 which is quieter and has no direct injection.

    LOL i've got a 4.0 just like you. I've just driven my buddy's 3.5 and it's impressive.

I FULLY agree that it needs more pedal to get going, but that's the wonky tuning that toyota has done. I akin it to "ECO" mode in my GS350, where when you click ECT, it feels much more like "SPORT" mode. Did you try it with ECT on? It changes the driving dynamics significantly.

I would have liked to see someone restore that red Toyota Tacoma that the asshole did all he could to destroy. Someone should drag his sorry ass behind the truck for several miles or leave him in it when it sank in the water and see how he stood up (just my opinion).

The "off-roading" in Hawaii was impressive!!
