    I can relate here,
I dropped off my 97 green beastie and left the dealership bawling like a little baby for like 4 days. Someone said its only a truck, I stated: "Anything in this life that carries me through the hard times is family."
    Love your replacement, fantastic choice.

    Congrats.

I was talking to my neighbor and made the comment, "I wish there was a place to go to visit my last truck, like a cemetery for past trucks", which made him kind of chuckle. My only regret is not taking more pictures of her through the 18 years of ownership.

I still dream of my red 84 Nissan KC 720 2wd gas (gave it away in 1996 for $75.00 with over 300k) What a machine. It's dead in a field somewhere with a blown motor, I hear.

I had a 88 Nissan 4x4 KC, which I can only describe as fitting me perfectly and I had so many good memories. I wish I bought 2, so I could of driven the other for 18 more years.

I remember on a Wednesday my Dad came home with a red 4dr Chev Impala housing a 396 in that Bitch but it wasn't fast enough (I guess) and by Friday he had traded it in and returned home driving a silver with burgundy interior 69 Buick Wildcat. That thing was a f'n ANIMAL. I remember co-piloting one day as we cruised down a lonesome highway Dad gently said "Steve, look at this" as he pointed at the speedometer. I looked and the little white arrow thing was pointing at 100. It was then I knew. I knew I had the coolest Dad (today they'd throw him in jail and remove me from the home)

Now you get to spend time at -> http://www.t4r.org where you'll be blasted by that forums anointed for not doing a search first. Minimum thread participation required before you can open a post there. That said, it's the best Toyota 4Runner forum on the WEB.

    I have a '14 4 Runner SR5 2WD. Good vehicle, but I prefer the ride/steering/braking of my '15 Tacoma SR5 PreRunner.

Tires, soon to be shocks, bushings, and bull bar. No lift, not needed.
How much did you end up selling it for? if you don't mind me asking.

I drove one. I had to put my foot to the floor to get the thing to go 65. It was only like 2 years old then. If I had to guess I would say your Tacoma had considerably more power.

What year was it? And was it auto or manual? When they still had the 3.0? The first ones were ridiculously underpowered. Well known. In '95 they started putting the 3.4 in and it was much better. Still underpowered though by comparison to newer trucks.

I bought one new off the lot in '97. It was by far the best vehicle I've owned. No, it would not lay down any rubber. It was a truck, plain and simple.

Mine was a 4x4 manual with the 3.4 (same as gen1 Tacomas). Mine also was the first year to ship with 16" wheels, and that meant it had a 4.11 rear end. I towed a 4400 lb (dry) trailer with it all over the west. Then for a while I had a truck camper that exceeded it's max axle weight. Replaced with a Tundra, which had a higher capacity axle but felt completely overwhelmed by the weight of the camper. The Tundra was a yuuge disappointment after the T100.

The T100, like the Pickup (Hilux) that proceeded the Tacoma, was a true truck. My friend calls them "Africa Trucks" because they are made to be tough. They don't ride or accelerate like a Tacoma or Tundra, but they are tough, durable, and long-lasting. If all you care about is quarter mile speed and cornering traction, stick with an America Truck. I love my '14 Taco, but it's not nearly as tough as my T100 was. And that thing was reliable, and never used a drop of oil in the nearly 200K miles I drove it.

I would have swapped the rims over to the 4Runner :) Also, your wife is very lovely.

I've had my truck for 10 years as well. A kid the other day asked if I wanted to trade his Civic and cash for it. That made me realize how much I love my Tacoma. I'm going to be buried in this thing.

I'm pretty sure it was a 3.4 auto 4x4. I'm quite sure the quality was there just felt small and week. I would say it was like a 97. I don't doubt the quality party. When I think of capability I think of the Tundra, it's truly a beast of a truck. I like your 4runner. That's a nice shade of red.

The automatics were not good from what I understood. Inefficient, robbed some of the (limited) power.

I felt that my T100 was strong as hell. But it was an old skewl truck. It wasn't fast, for sure, but as I said I hauled a 4400 lb trailer with it. And I was living out of the trailer, so I typically had all my worldly possessions in it or the truck. I hauled it over Colorado passes and down desert jeep tracks. The T100 was totally capable. Not fast, but not overwhelmed either.

I found my '06 Tundra to be a very quiet, smooth, quick accelerating vehicle. As a truck, it was soft compared to the T100. Ride was nicer... until you put a load in it. Then it was marshmallows compared to the T100. And gas mileage was terrible. T100 did pretty well on gas when not towing. I got 20+

I think it comes down to what you want and need from your truck. If your life is about on-ramps, sure, the old Pickup and the T100 were not perfectly suited to your needs. Tacomas and Tundras were designed for your needs.

That's not my red 4Runner by the way. I drive a Tacoma.

And I hate red for vehicles. YMMV.
