    Morning, Fogeys!

I finally got lucky this year. First Tom I've ever bagged. I've only been turkey-ing for a couple of years and I'd only gotten Jakes prior to this. I'm not much for trophy shots so my hunting buddy snapped a candid during our walk back to the truck.

Thanks. They're everywhere around here after the last couple of winters. The Jake I got earlier that day was part of a group of 3, and that's a small one. On my drive to work in the morning I'll regularly see flocks of 20-30 birds foraging in the local fields.

I saw something strange on my way to work yesterday -- a mink! It hopped onto the road and I had to stop to avoid hitting it. Stranger still was the apparent reason it jumped into the road -- it was being harassed by a red-winged blackbird! First time I've ever seen a mink on a road, and first time I've ever seen one being chased by a bird.

    Cool story, though!
I got to see a bald eagle getting attacked by crows over the weekend. They were dive bombing him for being too close to their nest. A couple of times you could actually see them bounce off his back while he was flying. Crazy!

    Afternoon all:
    Cool stories about critters!
Last night we went up to the river for walleyes, no walleyes but managed 3 small stripers. We heard a noise over on shore, turned on the spotlight, and there was a mother bear with 2 small cubs, she had a big white V on her chest that looked neat. Glad I wasn't fishing from shore, they were right at the rock I fish in front of!

Congratulations on both getting your new truck. :) I was working at my late moms place a couple days and got 26.5 mpg on the 110 mile drive back to the small town I live close to today. Speeds were 70 to 57 mpg. When I got to town, the few blocks I had to go around to hit a couple stores and by the time I got home, it had dropped to 26.3.

I went camping last Thursday and Friday before the holiday and again Tuesday, the day after. Speaking of turkeys, I was getting up Wednesday AM from my campsite and heard a hen. Got out of my tent, located her and her brood, small guys, tried to see how fast they were and gave chase they cheated and flew except mom. Turds. Heard a tom a short distance away also. The best was some smallish raptor swooped in and mom ran interference and spread her wings out, running towards the little ones, the raptor had no luck. Amazing sight.

Good morning S/W/S. Gonna be a gloomy one here today. I might mow anyway.

Duane, turkeys are interesting birds aren't they? Ben Franklin lobbied for them to be the national bird rather than the bald eagle -- imagine that for a minute! A couple of years ago I heard a commotion in the trees and looked up to see a momma turkey leading her brood from branch to branch. She finally found one she liked and lifted her wing. The wee ones all skittered underneath and she lowered it back down. They spent the night up there.

Welcome to the thread Thom:wave:. Pull up a rocker on the "old folks" porch and enjoy. Nice Tacoma, congratulations and good luck with it.

Morning folks:wave:. More rain again:annoyed::angrygirl::annoyed::facepalm:. I really can't complain because we don't have the flooding like the folks in Texas. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Very nice looking Tacoma Thom. Good morning all. I am off to church to level up the raised bed planters then back home to do some yard work here.

The interaction with the turkeys, is the fourth time I've seen a raptor try to catch a bird or animal. I've even seen one try to catch a rabbit, rabbit was about as big as the bird.
Over 90F here where I live in Kalifornia, according to my trucks electronics yesterday. Supposed to be a little warmer today, my mobilehome went from the mid 60's to the low 70's yesterday, the new energy efficient windows do too good of a job. I had to go outside after dinner last night to warm up. :) Going to split some more firewood today with the splitter, stack some wood too and maybe a run into town to the garbage transfer site. Tomatoes are about to bloom, nice to see. Mulching peas, carrots and potatoes with straw, replanted beans are cracking the ground.

Good afternoon to all. Yes, I'm still around.

Welcome to all the new folks .... this is a great thread with a lot of great folks on board.

Texas weather has sucked the past few weeks. Rains every day and you just mow when you get a break in the action (not to mention 99% humidity every morning). It's 3:00 PM before things dry out. Then you have a small window of opportunity before the next "turd floater" hits.

Hope everyone is doing well. I've been busy with putting asphalt on the driveway, landscaping, etc..

Busy today worrying about my 90+ year old mom being taken to the hospital last night .... see another trip down to SE Texas soon.

One more story/headline about that draft-dodger today and I think I'll puke.

    Tex

    Evening all.
Tex, hope your mom will be ok, lost my mom a couple years ago at 86.
Cassius Clay before he became religious, have not followed any news about him. No biggie, now where are the Warriors in the playoffs?
Had issues this AM with my sewer line going to my septic tank. I installed all of that when I developed my acre back in '81 when I moved onto it. Plumber I called said it was more then likely roots where the line goes into the tank. I had narrowed the blockage as being after my clean out, so that made things sorta easier, if 40' of sewer line is easy. After two trips to town, I got a Drain King, which when attached to my water hose, inserted down the sewer pipe and energized with water, then swells, a valve opens in it and squirts pressurized water down the pipe, repeats. Worked, I gave it a few minutes to work. Will now have to see if there are any roots by the tank. I have to find where the line goes into the tank at and see if any roots are there. Dug down to the tank this AM before my second trip to town, decided may be easier to call a pro instead of doing hard labor. This all could have turned into an expensive day, luckily I have a large septic tank which lets the goods work before exiting into the leach lines.
Going camping again midday on Sunday, campground where I'm going should be cleared out some by early afternoon. Two Coleman Collectors camping trips are coming up, one in Nevada on Father's Day weekend and the other late July, a little south of me off of Interstate 80 in Kalifornia, close to Lake Tahoe area.

Tex - hope your Mom is OK! Had to put mine in a nursing home a few months back and am dealing with all the financial issues and clearing out her apartment - totally sucks.

Looks like an ugly day here today - rain all day. Luckily I had a few hours yesterday to get the grass cut with just a few sprinklers of rain. Today will be a washout.
