Whoa! Why are those flywheel so expensive? They cost more than an OEM clutch kit!

Its an OEM flywheel. OEM clutch "kit" from Toyota doesn't exist, it would have to be pieced together.

Thanks for getting back to me Brian. I got an OEM clutch "kit" made by AISIN from my local dealer for $140. Came with everything but the flywheel, which they said they could not get. They can get flywheels for 4.0s and 1st gens, but not for my engine in 2nd gens.

I appreciate you looking into it for me!

I won't know until I take the clutch apart. I was hoping it was going to be cheaper than that, so that I could just replace it. It has been my experience that a new flywheel gives a better feel than a resurfaced flywheel. Perhaps I should look into taking it to a different machine shop this time around?

I took mine to a place that specializes in large commercial vehicles. The flywheel was almost to small for their machine. Make sure the place does two passes in a cross section pattern, makes a world of difference. Don't forget new flywheel bolts.

The flywheels are expensive because they are jewelry and worth it. The shop that did my clutch installed a non-TGP flywheel and the truck developed starter problems. Found out Toyota pays a lot of attention to the starter gear meshing.

    TGP:
    DSC_0036_zpsde586256_ac925290e6ab1665d9daf2726f637caf476b3ddb.jpg

    POS:
    DSC_0037_zpsb0a6f0d4_2990dfea8767ad5b6ad71e966a675f31eb680147.jpg

You can see where the starter chipped at the teeth on the POS from not meshing in right. The beveling on the POS is too sharp and short and on the wrong side of the teeth.

Here's where I replaced the POS with a new TGP and has more pictures of the differences:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tomtoms-03-trd-xtra-cab-sold.259729/page-36#post-8678223

I'd look more into resurfacing. The TGP stuff is top-notch and the original one resurfaced would be better than a non-TGP one, imo.

I was able to find an OEM (TGP) flywheel for $180 after some extensive searching. I ended up having the old one re-surfaced anyways after I removed it. I don't expect to need to do this again, but just in case, I will have the re-surfaced fly wheel.

I agree with you - Toyota's OEM parts are great.

Maybe it's just me, but it almost looks like the aftermarket part was cut backwards. On the TGP there is a second angle cut on the right side of the main tooth and the aftermarket part has it on the left. No wonder the teeth started to chip. The pressure surfaces are all wrong.

    hey Brain,
I need a 184350P020 and a 184450P020, upper and lower catalytic converter heat shield. The part # I found is for a 2wd, mine is 4wd. Assuming they are the same. Does the clamp come with it? What would an extra clamp cost?
The passenger side fell off. I didn't know it until the driver side started rattling because one bolt and the clamp fell off it.
Anyway, can you get me a price? I live in Schertz, TX 78154.

    Hi Brian,
You have helped me in the past and hope you can do it again.
I am looking for the yellow clips that hold the radio bezel in place and the white clips that hold the climate control panel in. The clips that hold the climate control panel are the same as the yellow clips only a little
beefier. Not sure if the year of the truck makes any difference but I have 2008 TRD Sport model. I tried looking at the part diagrams on your website but I could not isolate the clips that I need.
I am in need of them and plan to order a few so I have them for future needs.
    Thanks Brian.
