I would swap ballast first and see if the problem follows. If so, then it's the ballast. If not, swap bulbs and see if that follows. Most likely the ballast

No need, this was my only shot as I have had to troubleshoot a ballast/bulb myself. My knowledge pool is very shallow in this area. But my love is deeeeep for retros.

ok, i swapped bulbs (they both worked, so it's not that). just swapped the good ballast over, but still no light:annoyed: i didn't screw the ballast back to the engine bay sidewall as it originally was, just left it hanging there while i tested it. does is need to be secured to bay wall (providing ground?)
now gonna install the original ballast, which i thought was bad, to the good side to determine if it is, in fact, good.

    appreciate the help guys

At least we can rule out the bulbs. Ballast does not need to be screwed. The connectors already have grounds. Test the original ballast and let me know how that goes

So i swapped the ballasts, and bulbs, and the original side that did not work still doesn't light up. So it is neither the ballasts or bulbs. must be in the connections somewhere. after 3 hours of trouble-shooting without success i took it to the shop that i had install everything originally. i prefer to do what work i can myself but this is a pretty complicated retrofit with halos, retrofitted fogs, demon eyes......so i had it professionally installed as automotive electronics are not my strong suit. hopefully they can figure it out. thanks anyways...............it is appreciated.

I've seen this build somewhere. Who did you build? Anyways, the last thing I can think of is relay. Hopefully that installer got an extra set of motocontrol h4 relay

OR to be sure, use a voltmeter to see if hat side has voltage or not

ok, just got back from the install shop. it was the control box. they tested everything and fortunately had an old one lying around, installed it, and everything works now :)
i'll order a new one tomorrow. looks easy to replace.

my retrofit was done by LED Concepts. RJ, the owner was great to work with and stated it was one of his best builds which is saying a lot considering what he's done. unfortunately they no longer do retrofits but appear to be doing well selling led components.
i have had some issues with the retrofitted fogs (can't keep moisture out of one of 'em) so i disconnected them and plan to replace them with the new XB led fogs TRS is coming out with soon.

Here's the vid RJ posted of the headlights on you tube after completion----

If you're referring to the fogs, they are retrofitted with matchbox stage III's (also hydrodipped in a carbon fiber pattern same as the heads, and RGB halos). but even after sending the one back to the retrofitter to be resealed, and spending great effort trying many different options, the moisture keeps returning. i had only seen one other tacoma with retrofitted fogs when i had these done several years ago and that guy also had the same problem. i would never recommend the oem fogs to be cut open which is what is required in this case.

    the heads are FX-R's btw.

nice to hear from you guys that i know are some of the most knowledgeable when it comes to HIDs

2nd Gen requires a dremel lol however have you tried the gore patch? That may work.

Knowledgeable in HIDs. No way! :)

Hey, I am looking to undertake my first retrofit project this weekend. I am going to get the fr-x stage III kit with apollo 3 shrouds. Now comes my question. I want to get two halos and demon eyes (all colorchange RGBs) for each projector. I want to be able to control the color of each halo and demon eye individually. What will I need to purchase and how will I set this up and will I need three remotes for each side or can I connect it to my phone somehow? Thanks for the help!!!
