What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Yeah, it a pain on these trucks. I put a large drip pan underneath for the entire process.
Have you tried enclosing the filter (after getting it loose) with a quart-size zip-loc bag before removing? It may not prevent you from dropping it, but may reduce the spillage.

Interested too. I was thinking about this the other day because I'm about to do the same as you. Change plugs (not wires I did that recently) and clean the intake system.

Heck yes it works and was able to reset it to see if it comes on again...just need to find a transmission temp gauge and I'll be set I think..

That OBD2 unit with the tablet is so killer... I'm just excited to get a wideband and gauge pillar.

I'm getting ready to install a set of AP Expo springs and Bilstein 5100s in the rear of my 2002. I'll go with a u-bolt flip and mount relocate eventually, but for now, it'll be the Expos with Billy's in the stock shock locations. My question is this:

In general, for both the leaf springs and the shocks, what hardware and parts will I need to provide as new, and what hardware and parts will be reused? Thanks!

 

I would honestly reuse the U bolt plates if you can if they are in good shape. If not, replace.

 

Replace: ubolts, main eye bolt (if you need to cut the original out like I did), brake line

That's about it...

 

5100s are too short for expos, you'll need to measure and order 5125s or some other option.

 

Well, I figured at the age they are they can go at any moment, prolly miles from home.
So I ordered plugs, wires, coil packs, and new oem lower ball joints as I don't trust those either.

Go to any hardware store. Epoxy appliance enamel is a very close match. I've used it on my truck and can not notice any difference in tone. Its a tough paint as well, so no clear coat is needed.
