Question about the 1997 tacoma

Everyone keeps telling me not to sell my 97 Tacoma 4x4. What is so special about it that I shouldn't sell it for something else?

 

For those that want a small truck tacomas are the truck of choice. Arguably the most reliable truck made after the older toyota pickups and an unmatched resale value. The trucks are just plain fun and with the wide variety of aftermarket support you can do pretty much anything from supercharged solid axle swapped crawlers to a turbo long travel prerunner and everything in between.

 

But is it a good truck to turn into a work truck?

 

This^^^..... if you plan on hauling heavy loads get some better suspension and maintain the truck and it will last a long time. I used my last 99' Tacoma as a work truck doing construction for 10 years and she never let me down.

 

What should I do to upgrade the suspension??

 

You would want better leaf springs in the rear especially that are rated to carry a heavier load. OME suspension or ALL PRO both have decent sets. OME sells a kit to upgrade your fronts and rears and is in a descent price range for what you want to use your truck for.

 

thanks a lot. I just wished that you could purchase longer beds for these trucks cause they are so short.

 

If you want to haul lumber or any long piping etc. Get some ladder racks.

 

i dont need to haul lumber or piping, all i really haul is hay/straw and itd be nice to be able to haul more at a time.

 

In my opinion, there are vehicles for everyone. The Tacoma doesn't sound like its for you, but I could be wrong. I'd much rather have a full size work truck, that can work a lot harder, than a compact truck. I say sell it to someone who wants the Tacoma, and buy something you want with that money.

 

Its a compact truck not a work truck but, If all your doing is light stuff like that then invest in a trailer.

I can haul 19 bales of have in my truck and its a double cab with the super short bed, its all about how you stack them.
