Dumb to trade in?

Let the dog ride in the front. I actually prefer the fixed window. It has no visual obstructions and won't leak.

 

Personally I'd build your truck.... only better than their truck.

 

I originally had a 4x2 4 cylinder DCSB SR5 and traded it in after 6 months and 11k miles. I rushed originally and bought what was on the lot; I was coming from the second gen v6 and I do a lot of highway driving, so I was never really satisfied with the 4-cylinder, not that its a bad motor, I'm just used to a little more power. The trade-in was contingent on the dealer not low-balling me too bad and he didn't. I only lost about 2k after 11k miles, which i don't think is too bad. I bought a v6 4x4 DCSB and am enjoying it much better. I would trade it if you're unhappy and get a decent offer...

 

I'm kind on the same boat, after 3 months and 4k miles only regret is that I didn't pick a 4x4.
on the other hand I'm on the pavement 80% of the time, should I wait or take a look of what will be my scenario if I trade.

 

The other 20 % of the time, is it getting stuck etc? Is 4x4 a must for the other 20% or can it be cured with better off road tires?

If not, I would look at options on trade in...

Because a truck (to me) needs to serve its purpose. If it doesn't serve its purpose, its useless.

 

All terrain or mud terrain tires should be fine, the truck is to take my dirt bike to the tracks and trails with out dealing with trailers, My 2nd thoughts are mostly because I have had jeeps before and I really miss the freedom and peace of mind of getting in to places without worry of getting stuck, that's the main reason.

 

Have you considered having the front bumper color matched?
To me, that would be a very nice touch on a Utility trim truck after you saved the money by not buying a loaded truck you won't actually use.

So I'm in the middle of this right now (actually sitting in a dealership getting my 15 appraised). My last truck was totaled in a flood unfortunately (stupid underground parking garages). Bought a 15 cause I needed a car but I had always wanted a 16. Unfortunately I would have had to wait 4 months before they were released. So now I'm looking at trading in and getting a new one. So far my prices have been pretty decent. The 16 is roughly the same as my 15 otd, just trying to get the trade in value up so my out of pocket costs are less. Not sure if this is the same in every state, but if you trade in in TX, you only have to play taxes on the remaining amount. For example, new truck costs 35k, trade in is worth 30k, you only pay taxes on 5k. Since your truck is new and will have a pretty high trade in value, that'll save you a couple thousand potentially.

I'm with everyone else on here, if you don't like it, get another! We spend too much time in cars these days to be unhappy in them if we can help it. Hope that helps. Let us know how it goes.

Yeah color matching is one thing I would probably do if i keep it. Does anyone know if the bumpers are the same even though theyre black plastic? are they just the same bumper not painted?

 

Already made sure to get the 4x4 its the one thing I feel good about choosing. Didn't feel like I'd need the V6 cause I'm really just a guy who likes to go to Lowes a lot and take the dog to the river.

 

I think you should go to the dealer and find out how much it would cost you to upgrade to the truck package you like. Don't do it. Take that number they gave you, and see how much you can do to your truck on your own and how much better it will turn out than the stock version you could have gotten from the dealer for the same price. I bet if you do everything yourself, you can add everything you want plus tires and a suspension upgrade for the price it would cost you to upgrade at the dealer.

 

I won't go into all the details of mine. On vehicle #63 now.

But my MOST recent has been.

1)Buy brand new Land Cruiser. Wrong color.
2)28 days later, buy right color land cruiser. In CA, we pay tax (8.25%) up front. SIGH.
3)Keep it 5 months. Trade it in a new 2016 WRX Limited. Keep it 19 days, 800 miles.
4)Trade it in a LX570.

Only saving grace, I am a cash buyer (how I justify my pain to myself).

 

This whole thread is making me feel better about my decision to trade in. Didn't even know I needed to feel better until I read all of this hahaha.

Like the others have said. Figure out what you want, see if you can do it yourself cheaper, see what a dealer trade in value is along with the cost of what you want, then weigh it all out and go with your gut. By the sound of it, you want a new truck so go get one.

 

Yeah knowing other have waffled makes me feel super normal haha. The main reason I'm not completely sold on trading in is because I know I can do a handful of this stuff on my own. But the whole feeling of "have it now" just hangs.

 

Its like being an alcoholic. You are ashamed of it all the time. Till you go to a bar and hang out with other alcoholics, and you feel "normal."

Coming to TW or auto forums, makes me feel "normal" for my constant idiotic automotive decisions/automotive ADD. Trust me I have tried everything for my problems. I used to buy old cars. Then I went to lease new cars (forcing myself not to change). I constantly broke leases. Then went to buy new cars with cash (lot higher amount), so forcing myself that higher amount of losses would wake me up. Nothing has cured my problems. I love the thrill of the chase, finding the unicorn car. It used to be I could keep a car 6 months or so. Last few years I have been keeping cars less than month at times. I wake up in the morning, and decide don't want it anymore.

I play mental games with myself, justifying the cars, why I will keep it. I blocked all Autotrader etc from my computer. Nothing works.

Talking about it with other addicts helps. Till I get my next fix (TRD OR). I just know I will keep it a few months and get a TRD PRO instead...

SIGH.

I don't smoke, drink, gamble. Have no other "issues" in life. No other commitment problems. Excellent career, great family, etc.
