Welcome to Tacoma World, where everyone thinks they're your parent.

A simple no would suffice. Tell him to grow up. Grow up yourself and don't get pissy about everything you see on the Internet.

And before you say it. Yes. Leaving a car in the desert is stupid. Telling him it's stupid it's not stupid. There's a line.

OP, if you want to thrash on cars, watch Dirt Every Day and do what they do. Be sure to have a tow truck and a trailer. Then give 'er hell.

I'm not convinced you will find anything for $400 that will be any fun in the desert.

No one said they were his parent, sport.

He happens to be a kid. His question and chosen course of actions are fucking stupid, reckless, illegal, and from a world of make believe, regardless.

Spade is called a spade. Deal with it.

I call BS on the intention to "hobble it to a junkyard." The OP wants to buy a POS $400, so that's something that will barely run as it is. Then they're going to beat it to death. Then, really, they're going to be responsible and find a tow company to venture X miles off road to extricate a physically broken down vehicle (wrecked axle, flipped, trashed suspension, whatever) and haul it 50 miles or whatever to a proper junkyard? That in itself is a day-long process and $500 or much more bill. Yea right.

It's almost like you could've just said that at the beginning, kid. Time to grow up and not get pissy about things on the Internet you ultimately can't control. Deal with it. It's almost like your parents failed you to think you can make assumptions about how he was brought up. (To take snippets out of all your previous posts)

Kids do stupid shit. Telling him he's an idiot is one thing. You don't know his background, though. How about being constructive and giving him alternate ideas to meet his end goal of thrashing a car (there are ways that are legal) instead of playing mom on the Internet? Or is that too much work for your fingers to type?

If you have any further concerns, feel free to PM me :bananadance:

Another suggestion to thrash on a car, OP:

    http://crsrallyschool.com
First result on google when I searched "California rally school". This is completely legal and allows you to pedal down off pavement and not care.

Also OP, you own a Tacoma... Just go romp around in the desert in that lol. It will be much more capable than some POS junker.

No, there is no responsible(cheap way to) to make that happen. As others have stated there are numerous concerns. But I do understand that go karting gets boring. As a life long speed freak I would suggest you fellas save your money over the summer and find a more grown up route. Look for racing schools in your area that offer 1/2day or 1 day courses. It will be way more expensive, but you will walk away smiling. And as a bonus you may get some better driving skills. Just to be perfectly clear, if you go to desert with a POS, you will be the POS.

Step 1 - Find cheap manual car you and your buddies are cool with buying
Step 2- register NON OP, or dont... idc.
Step 3 - load it onto a trailer and use the taco to tow it out to the desert.
Step 4- Rally in the dirt
Step 5- load it up onto a trailer and take it to a junk yard.

There won't be any laws broken if you're in an OHV area, if you trailer that thing in and out you can get it to a junkyard no problem.
Just don't crash it into anyone

The one missing component is what happens when rod goes thru oil pan and dumps it all out? Kitty litter doesn't work super well on sand or dirt. I believe you can be drug behind a Prius as punishment in California.

Shovel and a bucket, then haul it off. I would hope they'd have the common sense to clean up after themselves.
Besides, what happens when a dirtbike, or UTV, or offroad truck breaks or rolls and flips. Everyone runs the risk of spilling oil.

A good rule of thumb is; If you have to ask if it's illegal, it generally is. If it's not; it usually is morally unwise to continue with anyway. There's my share of folksy wisdom for today.

You call a spill response company and pay the bill. When I blew up a Subaru in the walker valley orv park 20ish years ago I notified the DNR and they cleaned up the mess without billing me. It's part of being a responsible adult and human fucking being.

The idea of buying it then selling before registering, or jumping the registration as its called...not exactly legal.

OP: if you have $400...you should easily have $500. Registering that car would cost about $50 if you're including the tax on the sale...just do it.

Add liability only insurance for the car, its super cheap. I'd bet it would cost you $20 to add on your current insurance.

Sell the car after, recoup some of the cost, and take it right back off your insurance.

EDIT: Or buy, reg it, and tow it out there as someone else said. Use your truck as a truck. I'd probably do this because a $400 car probably wont have AC...thats a rough summer drive.

There, now you have done it legally.

EDIT: side note, where will you find a car for $400 that runs well enough to go have fun in?

I had no idea there was such a thing, I've never blown up a motor in the desert, so I have never needed such a service. Thank you for informing me, a responsible adult and human fucking being.
