It's a shitty situation, but it's no different with any other manufacturer. I know that doesn't really help to say that, but anymore all car companies push their dealers to "filter" warranty claims and limit TSBs and recalls to the absolute bare minimum. If they can pass the buck they will. "Working as intended."

Volkswagen- Dieselgate aside, I owned one in the mid 2000's. It literally caught on fire because they skimped on a $15 (retail price) insulator sleeve over the coil-on-plug wires, which Audis with the same engine had. Mercifully it didn't burn to the ground, but left me stranded. No TSB for that, I eventually just ponied up the $15 at an Audi parts dealer and bought it myself. Had a dome light switch crack on me and fall out. No biggie, probably just a defect in the plastic. Dealer made a HUGE fuss about replacing under warranty.

Ford- My mom bought a... 2013 (? I think) Escape. Rear diff made a shitload of noise from the factory. Noisy as shit when I sat in the back. I mentioned it, said it sounded like the damn thing was running dry. I'm told it was brought up and dismissed as a "Characteristic of the vehicle."
It grenaded a few months ago. Never got a clear answer but I'm pretty sure it was under filled from the factory. (This sounds vaguely familiar...)

Anyways my only "Minor Issue" with my 2016 Taco is that one of the license plate lights filled up with water. Dealer had me in & out in like 15 minutes, approved the claim immediately, and we're just waiting for the part right now which should be in next week. I'd say that qualifies as minor.

@550 miles I'm happy with this truck. The M/T Tacoma is geared well in my opinion. Chirped the tires 3 times ,pulling out and turning 90 degrees. Coming from a 12 T4R I'm satisfied with the power that the 3.5 produces.

Is this something that you can recreate for a technician? I would just keep bringing it back to the dealer and make them fix it. Force them to fix it or lemon law the truck. Not sure what state you're in but here in California it needs to be in the shop 3 times and not have the issue resolved. It's a safety issue so hopefully you can have it fixed.

Way to look on the bright side Smitty! I'd expect nothing less from you...

I choose to interpret those stats like Swimmer above... about 90% of those surveyed are happy with the truck.

I would definitely buy mine all over again.
I love it, listening to the guys here I worked and double checked some said "querks" to make sure it's tip top.
I mean this truck picks up chick's of its own, constantly stalked and followed by 4 runners.

I bought my 2016 DCSB Sport 4x4 MGM w/tow package in March. Hit 5000 miles last week, taking it into the dealer tomorrow for the 5000 mile checkup. I love this truck. The 1st 1500 miles it felt lacking in response and performance, a little sluggish. I don't know if I just got used to it, or it's 'broken in', but it performs beautifully now. I don't have issues with changing gears frequently at higher speeds, my transmission fluid was not low, and it's very responsive, much more than it felt when I first got it. Very responsive.

I've beat this truck up. I've hauled bed fulls of chopped wood and taken it on 6-7 hour back woods camping trips. Ran through snow drifts, mud, up and down very rocky terrain, and other trails that were pretty sketchy. Also performs well on the road/highway. My MPG averages 16-17 city & 19-20 highway. Truck is still stock when it comes to wheels/suspension/power train.

I wasn't so sure about my purchase during the 1st 1500 miles, but now if I had the choice again, I would buy the exact same truck.

In short, I WOULD recommend this truck to family and friends looking for a mid-size truck.

I've had issues with all of my Toyota trucks, none were perfect but they were better than the rest that were available at the time.

No real problems with the current truck but there's things I would like to see improved.

Why no floor mat locks for the passenger side? It slides around just as much as the driver side would only there's no pedals to interfere with. Still needs to be secured better, I like uniformity.

I love my Quicksand Tacoma TRD 4x4 Off-Road with Moonroof and the super dooper Premium package. I'm trying to stop spending time on the internet to read the manual. I have only closed the Moonroof because it rained on me. Or I had to park.

I need to know how to work SiriusXM [supposed to get another call as I was busy when they called].
I need to know what gear I end up in when I go from D to S while driving at 70 mpg. I'm afraid to try it in case it might blow the transmission.
I need to know how to set the cruise control, I didn't let the salesman explain because I didn't think I'd end up using it -- I have a VERY short temper when IDIOTS get in front of me and don't go 5 miles over the speed limit -- if the limit is above 55 -- otherwise I adhere to the limit judiciously.
I need to know exactly how and when to go into 4 wheel drive and what all the little dials above the windshield for digging my way out of sand do, and when to use them.
And a few other little things that I was told but didn't 'memorize' when I was told ... I was just tooooo excited about getting my 'girl' ... Myrtle.

But oh, yes, I LOVE my Tacoma more than I have loved any vehicle ... and I really loved my 1995 Ford Escort 5 speed.

It is awesome to watch people's reactions when a 71 year old woman in jeans and 'roper' boots gets out of her truck, puts on her black cowboy hat, touches the door to lock it, and saunters off ... yes, I saunter! Proudly, arrogantly. After all, I own a Tacoma!

LOL ... I gotta get some sleep, Farmer's Market tomorrow. And I have the truck for it.

I have owned 2 first generation Tundra trucks previously, and I traded an old ’03 4R for this ’16 Taco. I love the taco and loved the Tundras, but as far as build quality and amenities go, the 4R has them all except maybe for the LandCruiser beat.
I checked all the major issues mention here, the transmission U-joints and found the claims to be without merit.
The U joints have as much grease packed in them as the non serviceable 2WD models, so they’re not about to fall apart en mass.
But the 4X4 U-joints are made to be serviced so do service it.
U-bolts, mine were tight, but I would suspect some may not be, chit happens.
As for the transmission, it is my honest opinion they’re shipped with the required ATF amount, but there seems to be a great deal of confusion, misinformation, misunderstanding on how to properly check it, dealer personnel included. So I’m not the least concerned about it being low, time will tell and I’m betting on Toyota’s reputation and track record for making things right.

The truck rides like a dream, 5k+ on the clock no issues, great gas mileage. Better than my ’03 4R that averaged 21 mpg.
Sorry to disappoint the haters, other brand sales personnel, and the troll crowd, but I can’t find anything mechanically at fault with mine.
But I do have some complaints that ought to make those ppl happy.
For one, there’s no driver’s side grab handle like on my ’03 4R, and even the lousy crappy Dodge trucks have it at least in some models I’ve seen.
The truck is expensive for the little amenities it does offer. For instance, even the Rav4 has camera bird view among a list of options not available in this higher priced truck. But the same can be said about the 4R.
I hate that about Toyota, the put their best tech on the cheap vehicles and on the super expensive LandCruiser, but not on the mid price range ones.
    What’s up with that Toy??

    Hope that helps, stay safe
    Cheers!

I really want the 2016 Lx570. Love the design

However the new 8 speed in the LC and the LX has been problematic. Few lemons on club lexus and lots of complaints on theih8mud forum for the LC

My 100 series LC was the best built

Toyota seems to be getting a lot of complaints about their transmissions. It may help to explain why they took so long to offer more spds like other makers.
But at least they're not having the problems Nissan is having with their CVT's.
    Cheers!
