Not sure if it makes a difference but I always do it the opposite. Turn the driveshaft and count the tire revolutions.

 

Probably easier to see how many revolutions that way but both work.

 

And the confusion seed is planted...

 

You are going to want to remove your step bars for this trip or there is a good chance they will get damaged.

 

So... I think we are bowing out of the day trip on the 18th... Husband is worried Tahuya will damage the suspension on our '97 T4R. As far as we know, it's never been updated/upgraded. We've got over 230K miles on it already also.

Anyone know of a great place to update/upgrade suspensions for our rig? Hopefully not too expensive either?

 

If your curious, try it the way I suggested to see of the results you gat are different.

What much did y'all pay for the regear? Is it cheaper to get a 3rd member from ecgs and have a shop install it or just have a shop do everything?

 

Cheaper to go through ECGS. Saves a lot of time building the gears.
I got:
4.88 gears f/r (4.56 and 4.88 are $50 extra I believe)
ARB lockers f/r (which jacked up the price)
Solid spacers f/r
Gear oil
I think thats it.. Anyway before core return it was $3990, after core return it was around $3100. If you do it without ARB lockers its around $1300 just for gears after core return, one ARB locker and gears is about $2200 after core return.

 

I was doing my oil change and found this damn stick stuck behind the vsc sensor plug. It left a mark on the inside of my rim and it wore a little on the CV boot. Never had this happen before heh.

 

Ya, that's one of the first mistakes I noticed after getting them. Feel pretty dumb actually, hoping I can find someone interested in buying them so I can just replace them with sliders!

 

How quickly did they ship for you? I'm looking to go with them as well. I'm gonna run both arb front and rear with 4.56s

Sure, it would be nice, and sure, I'm much more pokey on the highway, but it isn't getting so much in the way that I can't drive safe or wheel OK. I need that money for all of my other stupidly spendy hobbies, such as buying very spendy pants because I fell down and put a hole through my last pair of spendy pants, or sending money to people who try teaching my dumb ass how to play a single note six different ways without screwing up (a la the guitar).

Are you looking to stay stock or upgrade?

 

Lead time was about a week and a half, there were a few orders in front of me though.

 

Define update/upgrade. 230k miles on original suspension is a lot to begin with so even going with new OEM stuff will probably be a nicer ride. But if you want to upgrade to a bit better shock that should be smoother and more comfortable of a ride than i believe Old Man Emu has shocks you can get and Bilstein makes shocks for the 4runners. Both are pretty inexpensive overall.

@AWilson013 and @GSPRunner might be able to help you out a bit more as they have 4runners too.

You could also call DownSouth Motorsports (based in San Diego) or Wheelers Offroad (in Oregon) and talk to those guys and they could get you a setup youd be happy with.

 

My brother just got the toytec kit with bilstiens for his 98 4runner. Looks a lot better and rides fantastic. I'm running the ome shocks and springs with the bilstiens 5100s myself. I originally started with just the 5100s they are a great begginers upgrade. Highly recommended.

Damn sounds like i need some saving up to do. Who did the installation for you? I might be going to Randys ring and pinion up in everett to have them install the parts after i order them from ecgs.
