When my 09 TRD OR was brand new it did something very similar. Ended up having to have the dealership replace the transfer case shift motor and it was located in the transfer case. They had to split the thing open to replace it. Really pissed me off as I bought the truck new to go on a 3 day fishing trip where I reallly wanted to use the 4 wheel drive. Damn truck was at the dealer for 8 days and they gave me a POS Taurus as a loaner. Ever try off roading on logging roads in a Taurus? Hope you have better luck than I did.

No the 4LO blinks when it is NOT working (well when it is not locked in). You have to be in 4HI and at a complete stop with the clutch pushed all the way in to switch to 4LO.

Sorry to hear about your issue with the 4wd. I wish I could help; but I don't know on these electronic systems. I wish they still had the manual locking hubs and the floor shifter for the 4wd. Much simpler.

Try getting into 4HI just crawling in forward or reverse....might need to turn the wheel back and forth a bit. When going into 4LO make sure your stopped and in neutral, turn switch, then go forward or reverse slowly until you get a solid light. When switching back, let off the gas so no load is on drive-line before going from 4HI back into 2WD. Make sure the wheels aren't slipping when switching into or out of 4WD.

did you try to shift while moving. My 2010 wont go into 4hi unless im moving.

Thr tcase actuator is not inside the tcase it is on the outside. If you look under the truck you can see it. If its a manual, with the truck off have someone press the clutch in with the key on and turn the knob you should be able to hear it turn. Like i said though alot of times my truck wont go into 4hi unless im moving.

Another thing you can try is put it in 4hi and drive away. it should go in

Yeah, sometimes mine will go into 4 HI without moving, and frequently it won't. You just need to move a bit to allow it to engage. As someone said, try turning the front wheels a bit while moving slowly too.

4LO blinks when you've switched to 4LO but it has not yet engaged. If it's blinking, you're not there.

I didn't say it was the actuator I said it was the xfer case switch motor and it is inside the xfer case. They tried replacing the actuator first and it did not fix it.

My 2006 did the blinking light at 16k and the dealership replaced the 4WD acuator under warranty. It was just like one minute it worked then it didn't. :notsure:

Make sure the wheels are as straight as possible. Try a little back n forth driving, see if it slots in. If 4Lo, you are stopped with the truck in neutral, right?

    If no luck, dealerize it.

I paid nothing but the warranty invoice was $500 parts, labor, diagnostic. I think the part was like $350
Another guy here went through the same thing a while ago on his dollar though. :(

ok: Fair enough. Was only going by exactly what they told me at my dealer and wrote on the slip. They definitely took the case apart as I can see a new form a gasket type material on the 2 halves?
Look at this: (page 5 section TF-18 step 19) they are definitely inside the case to be able to remove the actuator assembly)
