Uniden Pro520XL (what I run) or whatever they're calling it right now and the Cobra 75WXST are two of the most popular. I would not recommend the 510 or whatever the base Cobra at Walmart is - the few dollars more for the next step up is worth it imho. I see some on CL, but none I'd specifically say grab that. Maybe that orange looking Cobra, but the speaker and mic are probably crap. Keep in mind you'll also need antenna, stud, mount, and coax.

Same with GPS. I recommend Garmins, an in particular prefer the GPS Map ## series. They can be pretty pricey new, but you can often find good deals on them on CL or Amazon. The one I see in Breck right now is not a good deal. I don't know about the Oregon listed in the Denver area - I'm not a fan of the state named ones though others seem to like them. I'm still using a 60CSx. Even if you don't use it very often, if you get a decent one they can last a very long time. On the other hand, if you have a smartphone already... yeah, those are popular with the right apps and you can get them to work without cell/internet as long as you download base maps beforehand.

Thus far since i didnt want to spend a ton on a gps, im trying to sort it out with my phone, i downloaded a couple of apps but all of the maps i find online are a different file format so still working on that. Also going to be printing off alot of maps and stuff this week before the trip as a fall back. The 3 trails i wanna do are the following.

    http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=400
    http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=270
    http://www.traildamage.com/trails/i...74cf4f28aa282f9&at_ab=per-2&at_pos=3&at_tot=4

They are all around my camp site and dont seem to crazy for a beginner. I just wanna be able to find my way to them and out of them haha. il be running these on Sat morning/afternoon if anyone else will be around there and wants to play. This will my my second time out.

Probably will hold off on the cb unless i find a good package deal. not sure on that just yet.

    Thanks for the info!

Those are solid tires too! Just a bit more of a aggressive look on the Pros

Got to moab a bit earlier than expected after mapping the Rimrocker. Did onion Creek, then top of the world. Passed a few from here on their way down. But it took a while to get up here so I'm gonna keep this camp spot.

You should look at Odin Designs, you'll save on shipping too. My buddy has one on his FJ, really nice setup.

I parked just below the edge on the only level area, air mattress on the roof rack. Holy stars in the middle of the night!

Just realized it's a new moon though so no luck on getting those mountains lit up with stars in the back...Guess i have to come back.

Lots of people have pulled their truck up to the edge of the cliff... But how many have been able to shower up here! Haha

    Yes, it was amazing.
